Must be your monitor cleaner spray This entire vinyl/plastics section of the forum smells like beautiful Banpresto vinyl today, what gives? ;D zozo-mag The yo-yo color is pretty much done. I wasn't able to get an exact match, but pretty close. Those jumbos just seem to love either orangish red, bluish black, or purple black colors that look different shades depending on what type of light they are standing in. Should be able to pop the Dangard lance and Combattler custom yellow torso pieces out of their molds tonight. Then, decide what I want to do on the lance as I don't want fill it solid like the one I am copying and I don't feel like doing rotational molds of it either. Though I will be doing that on the first copy anyway. Maybe in the next night or so, I will start the mold for the Combattler cuff. I have the outside all smooth and cleaned up, but I need to smooth up the inside of the cuff more as I used the dremel to thin down some thick spots to lose about 1/2 ounce of weight.

excited to see the results bourno! on a quick color note, montana spray paint's gold line has a couple of colors that match some of the standard jumbo colors. i use blood orange for the default red plastic used on most of them, and shock yellow matches raydeen and gaiking. not sure how that would apply to dyeing plastics instead of painting them after the fact though...

Dyeing the PET i'm not too sure about, but painting with spray paint has worked well for me. I restored my Grendizer's entire head with aerosol... I use a xylene/acetone spray to wipe the parts clean of oils, then use a white plastic primer by Rustoleum. Montana Gold is acrylic spray paint which sticks well after the surface is primed. DiceOne posted a useful tutorial here on Toybox DX: toyboxdx.com/phorum/read.php?4,236682 (bottom post.) He recommends a sealing coat which I've never used, but I'm sure it helps. Montana Gold's finish is just the right matte finish to where it matches the PET surface closely... PS Apologies for hi-jacking your thread Wes

Not a problem. Always good info to share on other people's processes or methods. With the plastic dye, I think it more of the old 256 color monitors when you want a million colors instead. When I am coloring the plastic, I am going by how many "drops" of a color, so trying to get a precise color is quite hard without some kind of fancy expensive dispensing machine to control tiny portions of the colors. And you don't want to use too much dye or else the plastic doesn't cure as good as it should. From the web sites about that talk about this, I deduced from reading and how many drops are in a milli-liter, my rule of thumb for example "10 ml of one part resin, then only want to use 10 drops total for coloring". Less is fine. But, as you can see, adding a drop, then changes the color mixture by at least 10%. It works for me, and I get pretty good repeat color most of the time, but limits the color palette. And the dyes are only in basic colors. Ie: Red, orange, yellow, purple, blue, black, green, white, brown. No blood orange, lol. So, I have to decide to go with a little too red or orange for trying to match. But, I guess if you change out ALL the yo-yos, then they will match each other for color ;D ;D The antennas are not as lucky, since there is still the main head right there for comparison. Those may need some paint afterwards to blend or just ignore

First piece for the torso. Ignore the one small air bubble along the outer edge please. I used a plastic toy container for the outer piece, it had good curvature, but not quite enough when I thickened the piece on the back side and then sets out a little bit further. From the front, it looks AWESOME !!! From the side, there is a small gap, but I think I can live with it for now. The piece is magnetically held into place.

That piece there looks Genius the way you handled it with the use of a magnet. That's what I praise as Thinking Outside The Box. That proves the fact that if there's room and possibility for the use of magnets (and for that matter, Any type of gadget or mechanical item) to attach a jumbo's part, or to create some fancy weapon feature, a little jumbo bit of clever genius goes a long way, therefore Go for it! zozo-mag

Started on the lance piece. Arthur (toyseeker2010) let me borrow one of his solid filled reproduction pieces and here is a photo of a hollow made copy and doing my own thing. To try and copy the blowmold version would take to much time to do and I don't think doing a rotocast may not always result in a good copy either. So, I am leaving the backside open and then have a separate attachments for the leg or to hold in hand. Maybe in a few days, I may have it cleaned up enough to make a mold again.

I updated and added a few photos on the restoration pages. For Dangard, some shots on the near final version for the lances. I plan to make a mold of it, but looks like I need to order up more silicone again. I have made a first wing mold and really eats up the resin as I haven't tried to see about making it hollow like the original yet. For Combattler, a few photos of the "red" arm. I am in process of a mold for the needed, really long shooting insert for the shooting side. www.teambac.com/shogun_warriors/Combattler_restoration.htmlwww.teambac.com/shogun_warriors/Dangard_restoration.html

An update on Combattler, "marvel color style". Here is with the antennas added back on, both custom red arms with the slightly smaller popy version fists, and custom yellow waist piece.
I like the smaller fists as the "mattel" style as I call them, seem a little big and don't seem quite right.
I have one of my repro yo-yos on Combattler and will see about getting a comparison shot of it and an original. (limited on plastic dye choices and would like to get a little deeper red, but pretty good)
I have a pretty close color formula for the original fists.
I need to soak the screw in vinegar I believe I read somewhere for taking the rust off, or just replace them. I may have to rely on my ole "loaning parts" people for making a repro chest piece.
A couple touch-ups and new stickers, I think my Combattler will be looking really good.
I do plan to make and add "ankle yo-yos" and a custom back track piece at some point. I am trying to finish up some old, over-due projects and need to get back on a non-started project as well.
Hope you enjoy the photo and thanks for reading.

I just received my Combattra Yo-yo repros. I had two originals and needed two for the waist.
They are actually nicer than the originals. Better material. Better cast. Springy and not brittle at all. They just pop right in those holes.
I'm tempted to swap out all my yo-yos for the repros they're that nice.
Awesome work! Thanks!

Updated the page some for my Combattler restoration. For the white leg pieces, I got some peroxide from Sally's beauty supply. It isn't the ultra strong stuff mentioned in this sticky thread. robotjapan.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Popychogokin&action=display&thread=16865And took 3 days of sunshine to get the white pretty decent. Could maybe used another day, but I wanted the warrior put back together. I made a new chest piece via a cast and cleaned up borrowed one from Ray (eyeone). Thanks. Overall, I am quite happy with the clean up and new parts made for a custom jumbo Combattler. www.teambac.com/shogun_warriors/Combattler_restoration.htmlCustom items not done and will be on the back burner until I get some other things worked and completed. Still want to: - Custom back tread piece
- Something for the knee area
