I think yamato did a fantastic job with Danguard Ace,just needed the head a hair bigger, and a better way to keep the lances on the feet, other than that it is "ACE".
In a perfect world we would have all the classics and 2nd string classics in SRC.But Id rather see Tryder,Diapolon and Daikengo in SOC,as that is the only Bandai line that would get them.Bandai wont touch Diapolon though,Daikengo and Tryder yes,Diapolon is more of a CMs robot I think.
If I ran Bandai there would be 3 sublines under the SRC line :SuperSentai,Classic Superobot, and Modern which would include Realrobot types as well as Superobots. Then alternate releases.

I'm pretty sure this line isn't targeted at children. The price of SRCs would be prohibitively expensive for most kids. Also recall that the "new" super robots like Zeorymer and Dai-Guard are 10-20 years old now. You know what I meant.Natives to Japan know these mechas better than anyone here, most US collectors dont watch any anime, even the classics, let alone these modern obscurities of the past 20 years, which is new to me when we are talking robot anime.I mean look at the head honcho at Collection DX one of the biggest robot communities,he always says he knows nothing of the animes,he just likes the toys! So whether its Japanese kids from 6 to 35 they know these better than us is what Im getting at.Most US collectors and even European collectors are mostly interested in classics,I guarantee you say Grendizer or Super ArmorGear Dendoh-meyer-king-ioh,Its Grendy EVERY time! You're making some pretty big assumptions here, and I'm willing to bet that several of them are wrong. It seems to me that most people who buy mecha toys do so because they enjoy whatever anime they're from. Collectors who buy stuff from series they've never heard of are in the minority. That's why you'll see a direct correlation between the popularity of an anime and how well its merchandise sells. Your assertion that most collectors outside of Japan are only interested in classic super robots is also suspect. Your comparison is a flawed one: Grendizer is an extremely popular series in most parts of the world, while Gear Fighter Dendoh is mostly unknown. Try instead asking collectors whether they'd prefer, for example, Gurren Lagann or Grendizer, and I'm fairly certain you'll get a bigger divide in answers. Even ignoring your hypothetical example, take a look at the mecha section on AmiAmi right now, and you'll notice that the top selling items are all robots from outside of your era of classic super robots. Sure, Zeorymer and Aquarion may shelfwarm, but they're from unknown anime. SRCs of equally unknown classic super robots like Daikengo or Tryder G7 wouldn't sell any better. In fact, I've already seen the SOC Daioja hit the bargain bin. Fans of modern robots definitely aren't an inconsequential minority of international mecha collectors, and unless you've got better evidence than a couple of anecdotes, I'm guessing we probably aren't even a minority at all.

Super.
Ask anyone here if they could keep one SRC,or if they have one SRC,or if they were to buy one SRC,which one it would be....I believe it would start with an M,and be a classic robot, and its not Magiking.
Also when we had the discussion on what SRC would everyone like to see next..it wasnt Gurren Lagann guy,it was Grendizer and Mazinkaiser {which to me is a classic robot as it stems from the Mazin saga}and several other classic robots.Show me where anyone said some strange obscure modern robot, the most obscure it got was Dendaioh which is hardly obscure or megamodern.Matter of fact read the first pages of this thread its monopolized by Grendizer SRC fans dying to have him.So read it yourself. You want facts, read it.And as for Tryder G-7 being an unpopular SOC,?hahaha please. He is a super popular vintage robot and would be JUST as popular now.If your ninting that Gurren Lagaan is just as popular as Grendizer,,wow.
Ok Ill put my foot where my mouth is ..who would rather see Grendizer coming up next intead of Gurren Lagann. And I lay down the sword, this isnt to argue with the new guy,out of all seriousness lets here it fellas.Gurren Lagann or our good pal Grendy.
Ill begin
Grendizer.

Hi Baron Weirwulf. I actually will be one of the guys who says they would rather have Gurren Lagann over Grendizer. But I love that Anime. I like the positive vision that it has and I love the epicness of it. Believe me, it was a shock when I came to realize that Gurren Lagann is one of my absolute favorite mecha of all time.
Now, before the announcement of GL if you had asked me the question in regards to which SRC we would keep? I would say one of the Mazingers (even MSKL) it depends on the day of the week though.

Well that makes sense as it happens to be close to your favorite Superobot which is understandable. But again you still make the point Im trying to make also, the Mazingers would be first for you, again classics.Goes to show in the end everyone likes things they recognise, and Icons they loved as children etc. New Superobots etc are cool and have the flash, but they are a flash in the pan! Awesome today, forgotten by the time the next one comes out.Whereas the early simple designs rule out.Its the same with Comicbook heroes, generations LOVE Superman/Batman/Iron Man/Thor and always will, thats why these movies are so popular now,the old characters everyone loves.Sure certain things stand teh test of time when its a great design, but how many forgotten fake Gundam style Robots/Animes are out there that noone remembers?

Let me clarify one thing. If the question Baron asked was AFTER the GL came out...I would choose GL....I THINK. LOL

If between Grendizer and Gurren Lagann only: GRENDIZER 100%! But I would rather have an original version Mazinkaiser above all others - SRC or SOC! ;D }D

I think the point that Baron Weirwulf is trying to make is flawed, his trying to make a point that classics are the Super Robots that people want is top priority (which in this case the opinions from outsiders of Japan)as oppose to make certain modern or sentai to spice the line a bit or for that matter what the market is demanding, which in this case it would be the Local Japanses Market and not the outsiders which we are considered secondary.
So in this case the Local Japanses market dictates that they want to see a Gurren Laggan and Gunbuster before a Grendizer so Bandai has to make what the people wants, they need to bring not only the people that grew up with the classics but as well they need to bring those that grew up with the modern era.
Baron Weirwulf, If Bandai makes the SRC line full of classics you push away the people that grew up on the modern era that wants to see some of there modern favorite Super robots as well. They are way to many classics, Heck!, alone Go Nagai has more classic robots than any other, so at the time they reach to make any modern SR it would be crawling in a halt or they will simply start a new line. Is good that they make different robots either classic, sentai or modern just to spice up the line and make the customer (which in this case the Japanese Market) to be interested in the line.
However the point that you are trying to make is simply to push away the modern super robots because in your personal opinion they don't fit just because the design or concept is nothing like the classics as oppose to what is an actual super robot which is simply a machine that does the most over exaggerated things that it would never happen IRL.
Also making two other separate SRC line, one for modern and one for Sentai is not practical. you divide the man power and resources for those lines and could be a possibility a harm one or the other as oppose to having them in one line, less risk.

At least the SRC line has gone back to Super Robots. The Armored Core ones...well...Super Mecha Chogokin more like it. Or Real Robot Chogokin. I know we can argue Weisreitter and Alteisen from SRW. But hey, they shouted out their moves. That is one of the major tropes of all Super Robots!

I think we all know what Baron is doing, trying to say between the two Grendizer is better because its a Classic and that Classics are better because they have "cleaner" designs so the SRC line should be focused on Classics. Pretty obvious to bad its a matter of opinion and clearly not what Bandai thinks or will follow so its really a mute point. With sales to prove otherwise which in the end is the true measuring stick if the direction a toy line is heading is right or wrong.

Push them away?Im not saying that at all,Its a simple question, the hypothesis was posed that Gurren Lagann and Grendizer would have split votes as to which would want to be seen as an SRC.I just dont think so.Ofcourse I know there are some who like teh new stuff better, that is fine!I just dont think its the majority, thats all,or even close to it,as much as anyone thinks.Im not trying to force my opinion,Im just saying what Ive seen and heard here. There are 100s of pages dedicated to Voltes V,for instance.Grendizer is probably the number one want for SRC besides Mazinkaiser, neither are new. Please i dont want to upset anyone,Im just talking.Im sorry I dont want to offend anyone, just trying to say something I think is true.

I suspect Gurren Lagann will sell a whole lot more than Gunbuster. It could sell more than any other SRC in the line. Just because it has not "sold out" does not mean anything. The run on it might be pretty high. If you want to argue Grendizer is more popular you would be wrong. You do NOT see people doing Cosplay from Grendizer where you DO see a ton doing them for GL.

OMG youre abosulutely wrong! Everyone can tell you that the first src mazinger has been the most sold src in the line, that is a fact. I lost count of how many runs of the src mazinger have been done to date. Gurren lagann may be famous but never will be as famous as grendizer and you can take that to the bank. And for the cosplay comment you made, you need to check the internet more often. Like it or not, Grendizer will always be more popular than gurren lagann worldwide, and it doesnt even matter what Bandai or the japanese public thinks about it anymore. Grendizer, Getter Robot, and Mazinger are global icons, not just japan icons.

ryomakabuto we can disagree on that one. I am a cosplayer and I can honestly say I have never seen a Grendizer one though, I have considered doing Duke Fleeg. However, I am a little to muscular to pull that one off. LOL. More built for Captain America and other super heroes.
Here in the states, if I show someone a picture of Grendizer, Getter Robot, and Mazinger they generally have no idea who they are. MAYBE Mazinger if they are 35+. Gurren Lagann 9/10 times they go "GURREN LAGANN!!!"
Now, my 4-year old on the other hand...she knows them all. Show her a picture of Gaiking and she nails it. Her favorite? T28.
However, your mileage may vary

People my age {30s-late 30s}recognise the classics because of tranzor Z for Mazinger, and teh others because of Shogun warriors, they havent a clue who Gurren Lagann is. I think I see what is happening here, younger crowd identifies with modern Robots,Older crowd with classic ones for teh most part, not always but generally.
