All right. Now I'm hooked on this before and after thing.
Nakajima Tekkaman jumbo. Not my favorite guy. I never really wanted him. But $120 on ebay when ARAP of robotjapan was liquidating his collection. How could I go wrong?
I created his stickers in photoshop. I sculpted on some horns with sculpty. He was missing a wrist launcher so I spent weeks looking through transparent pens at Staples and stationary stores. I never found one. What I did find in my garage was the tiny hourglass that came with the game Pictionary. The hourglass came in a clear cylinder. Perfect. Add a spring that does nothing but looks right and a piece of one of the failed pens I bought mounted in the back to approximate the firing pin.
He was missing the head missile so I used a Space Valour missile which will fit in the Nakajima launcher with some coaxing and glued on a flat circle and made him a swirly sticker. All traced over internet jpegs in photoshop.
Then I painted him up. I even painted his polyethylene shoulders because they were so scratched up. Not the exact, correct color. But he looked rich and new so I was happy. Even the jumbo you don't especially like is still a jumbo, dammit!
