Another vintage toy line to collect! Howdy all, I've recently taken the leap into Jumbo collecting and am happy to have found this message board. I have been collecting Megos for a couple years now (admittedly my favorite toy from childhood) and didn't really think I'd delve into Shogun Warriors--at least not the jumbos as the prices seemed so high. But here I am, with a new Mattel Gaiking, and a Dragun on the way. Looking forward to learning more about all the variations, the original Popys, and the numerous bootlegs. This could get expensive!! For now, a few pics: Xmas in the late '70s:

Welcome aboard Wakeupheavy,
You are correct in that this hobby could get expensive. If you fall deep into it (like all of us here) you'll be hunting the rare Popy versions in no time. I started collecting the Mattel Shoguns and before I knew it I had them all and was off looking for their Popy cousins. The Popy versions are so much nicer but so much more expensive.
Good luck and keep posting the pics! They're awesome!

I'm trying to pace myself. I let a few auctions slide by yesterday (that went for pretty low prices) because I don't get paid until tomorrow. I tried to be patient with my Mego hunting, and it worked well for me.
Thanks for the welcome folks!

Best toy lines of the '70s, IMHO. Although I was bitten by the Star Wars bug for a number of years. Oddly though, I have no desire to collect vintage Star Wars.

I was pondering about what Shogun Warriors I had as a kid, other than the 5" Dragun in that Xmas pic. And I could have sworn I had a jumbo Mazinga. But when I got this Gaiking I was really struck by the size and now I don't think I ever had any toys that big. I think I may have had a couple of the models instead. Weird how our memories work.

I have most of my loose Star Wars figures from childhood. My daughter and I play with them sometimes. I just have no desire to collect them now. Maybe because they are the one toy that didn't get lost, tossed or given away. I used to pine for my old Megos, now I've got them all back, and all the ones I didn't have but lusted after as a kid!

Welcome here. Like the other said, it's always nice to have new people here. That Gaiking is really nice, one of my personnal favorite as it was the only one I had as a child.
Watch out with Jumbos, they looke super huge and nice alone, but once you put a few together, the impression is really different and it always push you to get more and more.
Good luck in your journey and hope you will score great stuff.

I'll see if my Mego photos are up to date. It's not a huge collection. I WAS able to control myself with them.

welcome to RJ, I'm new to this site myself, although I have been reading post here for 6 months or so. Your X-mas picture is great, it brings back my christmas memories...the funny thing, I got my 3 Mattel shoguns (new) for Christmas in 1980...Guess it was hard times, and I just didnt know..but what kid wouldnt love to open a box that had those jumbo toys in it ? I never realized they were not new, until a few years ago.And now that's all my 2 boys play with !!!

Decals are in very good shape on both, which is nice. Shouldn't have to buy any repros unless something crazy happens.
