Wait for the colored pics guys. Too early to tell. And the KFC version's cab isn't, how do you say it............proportional. The rear part that makes up the last 4 wheels are not aligned with the front wheels. That already is a minus for KFC.

I have CStack and in hand, the misaligned rear cab wheels doesn't really stand out. My beef with MP22 is if it ends up to be very similar in size with CStack, why couldn't Takara improve it's proportion? One of the original advantage it had over CStack was that it scaled better to MP10 - but this advantage is now lost. Unless someone has it in their hands, there's no way to tell about how solid it's going to be - knowing Takaratomy, it should be very solid. But then MP09 comes to mind...
Just for note, I'm getting MP22 too but that doesn't stop me from thinking that MP22's proportion is so wrong. Even the missiles are wrong! But then again, MPBee improved so much after the color pics are released - so I hope that will be the case with MP22 too.
EDIT: I want MP22 to look like Lejam's digibash. IMHO, that's the perfect proportion for Ultra Magnus.

The faster and cheaper solution is maybe to re-scale head :  (picture sended by Zambot, from tfw2005 boards) But it stays as a proteined boy. |

I think the problem they are having is with the required size/dimensions of the vehicle mode. Because of this, the figure has a short, bulky appearance and it doesn't look right.
I agree that either the head needs to be bigger or the toy needs to be slimmed in areas, but slimming it down may affect the appearance of the vehicle mode.

I cannot help but wonder if they are releasing pictures to get test feedback. This does not come out for a long time. I won't be surprised if the figure does not change a bit before release. Who knows though.

I don't think it will change to much, I think a lot of it was to steal some of the KFC versions thunder and the price was in direct result of 3rd Party prices. I'm waiting to see colored prototypes to come out. Color adds a lot and gives depth instead of seeing a giant grey mass.

I think the issue was trying to get proper robot scale to MP10 even though MP22's entire trailer transforms into the robot as well, hence it's only logical that it ended up much bigger than Optimus Prime (no, mass shifting is not a readily available technology for toy robots). What really irked me was although MP22 try to compress its size down to match MP10's size, it still ended up as big as CStack, and all the compromises only made him into a bulky, badly proportioned robot mode. To be fair, had CStack's designer(s) had chosen to incorporate all of Ultra Magnus detailed likeness into their figure, they would have made the perfect Magnus (material durability and build quality being different issues altogether). On another matter, had Hasui incorporated the classic sliding mechanism for MP22's arm, that would've solved the forearms being too bulky. As for the lower legs, I didn't really think of it as too much of a problem (a bit slimmer would help, but what can you do), notwithstanding the floaty front panel and the horrible look from the back, IMHO, it's the only part of MP22 that gets Ultra Magnus correctly. And don't forget the butt flap (or "fart curtain" as they call it in Chinese discussion board). |

Very nice, especially that head and face sculpt. Even though the limbs are a bit bulky, I think this release still deserves a lot of credit, as it has a lot of nice stuff going on. I don't think any of the 3rd party ones even come close. Just go look at that head again if you have any doubt.
Wish MP Bumblebee's face was as nicely done.

I think they should have just gone with the white Prime with Armor design. It would have been easier and the proportions would have been better, you can tell this wasn't designed by Shogo though which could explain a lot.
