I remember in the original TF commercials, Megatron looked very similar to these robots. I don't know if they were ever released but if you look at the way they are constructed, there are many similarities to the Megatron we know today.
I do know that through the Microchange line there was the Walther (Megatron), a six-shooter, and a Browning released.

Pic taken from this site: 1500bc.com/pretf/mm_pictures.htmlMore meg pics there. Blame it on child safety laws, that is why we don't get a meg that is actually close to a real world gun.

Yeah, out of all the MC series, Megatron was definately the best one especially in the U.N.C.L.E. version. Although I always thought his nose was a little large.

Browning is smaller than Megs too
No doubt the browning mold was considered but they wanted a bot that could match size with Optimus
oh and thatfirst pic, those are concept art if i remember right. thats why its so similar yet so different

Interesting thing about the Browning is that the creative powers incorporated the character in the later Japanese series (Headmasters). He was a character who was remain tiny even when he transformed into a robot (unlike that groovy ability Megs had to turn gigantic).

In the Japanese series, yes. He was kind of like a pet.
