I was wondering if anyne has any experience with rust removal, specifically with tin belt buckles (e.g. Kamen Rider V3, Red Baron etc.), but would also be curious about other hardware, screws and what not.
I picked up a Shogun Dragun not too long ago and tried two different methods; the first method involved soaking the screws in vinegar, which didn't work as well as I had hoped, but I'm thinking it might have been too diluted. The second involved soaking the screws in Coke-this seems to have gotten rid of the rust, but also turned the screws black. fortunately I was able to buff them clean with a Dremel bit.
I'm curious if anyone has a more efficient method of cleaning screws, but more importantly, how one might go about cleaning tin belts. I'm assuming a new paint job might be a necessary part of the process for complete restoration.

I just use a rust remover / polisher for rusty screws & springs and it works a treat. From Draguns cape screws to the launcher springs in Raydeen's Iron Cutter launcher.
Brasso is the stuff I am currently using.

I use Naval Jelly, a great rust remover. A warning, however -- it is extremely caustic so make sure you get it all off the screw before you return the screw to the robot. I use the Naval Jelly, then an old toothbrush on the screws. I then let them soak in vinegar overnight to make sure all the Naval Jelly is neutralized and then wash them very carefully. I have had no problems so far with this method.

I use a mini bench grinder, with a fine wire wheel on one side, and a buffing wheel on the other...Harbor Freight sells a black polish stick, that melts into the buff wheel, and really puts a shine on most surfaces....it also works with a polish wheel on a dremel tool...Fast and easy to use, no soaking, I soaked a alum. carb in a tank of carb acid, trying to get it super clean....came back later that day. and half of the carb was gone......
