I'm curious to know your thoughts on whether the holiday season will bring about a better selection/assortment of Jumbos on E-Bay & YJ? I feel like I'm seeing a bit of an increase but maybe it's just normal. Hopefully they'll be some good deals out there. Or, in the alternative, maybe sellers think Christmas is not really the time to list some rare Popy's because most collectors will be spending their money on loved ones and not necessarily themselves. I hope that sellers will list their most precious items in the hopes of making some extra cash so they can get through this most expensive time of the year without going into debt Your thoughts? Have you noticed prior trends during different seasons?

Maybe there are some wifes and girlfriends out there shopping for gifts for their JM addicts partner that have driven the price up during this festive season lol ;D

Over the whole year, there have been more 1st version Mattels listed than last year. For the more rare pieces, seemed to had more listed at the beginning of the year and a few this Fall. Like the Getter 3, never saw one listed before, but then just recently, there was one on ebay and YJP. Seems like they come in spurts. Been a lot more diecast pieces this year than I remember from last year.

Three Getter 3 jumbos popped up within a week-two on Yahoo! Japan and one on eBay, which was surprising considering how rare this particular jumbo is supposed to be. However, sometimes I think the rarity of particular jumbos is an illusion that has been created by articles from the past and the judgement of a few collectors who published their personal experiences.
I really don't think the holiday season will bring about anything special, or if anything does turn up, I don't think the season is necessarily to blame.
I do think that the holiday season might not be the best time to buy. I could imagine a seller raising his prices, assuming that a buyer will be more likely to jump the gun given the holiday season, a time when people are naturally spending more money than usual.

l would expect that very high grade (condition wise) figures, particularly boxed specimens would be most in demand as those figures would be the most desirable to be given as gifts.

I agree the high grade stuff tends to show its face a bit more. Now I'm not a jumbo guy, but I can tell you that next week is the week I usually see some absolutely sick stuff pop up on the vintage toy front.
Last year had some really nice stuff show up from december throughout the beginning if the new year, so we will see if that happens again.
I usually have to buy for myself, but since the point was mentioned - how many of you have family members, or a bf/gf/fiancé/spouse etc. that would know enough to:
1. pick the absolute best condition toy for you 2. actually know or recognize the right toy to find/pick 3. or know or recognize a toy you don't mention but actaually want/need?
This is whether it is a steal or top dollar money wise. For example, my little brother understands the difference between nice and dead mint and other than not knowing much on vintage prices he'd probably tell my dad "mike would like this". My dad, being a vintage toy collector of other genres would know how to rate a toy well regardless of cost, his question would mainly be "does mike have it yet?" and my mom, well I just don't see her picking out any toys or robots for me. She'd be more apt to do something like a nice sweater or movie tickets or a gift card so I can get a small figure or put it toward a bigger purchase after the new year.

Historically, the summer vacation season is the worst time to sell, or auction, since most people are out and about, spending $$ on outside things/pursuits. For buying, it's usually the best time for deals that just get passed by.
The combination of sellers needing to list stuff to raise money for their winter spending, and savvy sellers knowing buyers are inside, on the net, and spending in the Fall/Winter means more cool stuff is thrown out there, coming out of the woodwork, but less deals pass by unnoticed for sure.
