701,700 yen is $8,543.76 US for those of you that are curious. That really is up there. I figured it would be around $5k for an incomplete one before I viewed the item.

Well, 82 bids... probably a few guys were going after this, but it's still an insane price.
If you lived in Japan I suppose there is a chance that you could find missing parts by searching the random parts bins at places like Mandrake?

Was not watching recently, but that bid has to be purely due to the box existing. Those same parts have shown up in the last couple years, loose, and never gone more than a couple grand. A near mint loose specimen in CA was won on eBay in the last 2 to 3 yrs and went for $2200 to 2800, can't remember exactly. Same time a mint boxed one auctioned from Mandarake hit $12-14,000

I mainly collect loose toys, but certain ones I have to have boxed. And in some cases it is easier for me to seek out the box later, etc. I thought the price may have been a little too high for it in this case, but I guess Jon and I are thinking alike and if a boxed one had done 12-14k I can totally see someone buying it for the box, to a point, of course.

Indeed. The box is very very nice.
Swap a few parts, and you have a great set. The bidders probably had the parts already.

I have a complete set in excellent condition although the box has experienced some wear. I would like to put it up for auction this month. Can someone advise me of the best way to sell this. I was thinking Ebay, but I thought I would check a few of the boards to see about direct interest. I plan to take pictures of the set this weekend.

Based on the posts here, what is the going price for a complete set in working order with a box. Also, can someone point to the best way/site to sell my set. Thanks.

I would easily consider this an important/high value item. It is only worth what someone is willing to pay, so it is hard to say whether it would sell for more than the above item this week or less than that a few months from now. It all depends on who is looking, at what time and how bad someone really wants it.
Those are the market conditions you have to deal with. You do have a significant advantage if your item is complete, unbroken and has little wear. If there is anything missing (paperwork etc.) it will not hurt you completely but will have a more significant effect on your final price due to the overall value of a piece like this compared to a common vintage toy.

He will be the best point of contact for your questions, but please keep us posted here with information updates and what the plans for your sale will be (where and when).
