Differences in the 3 Mattel Mazingers

I have done some online research regarding the differences in the three versions of the Mattel Mazinger, but I couldn't find anything really comprehensive. So, I decided to restore the three versions and see for myself what the differences were. Here are photos of all three after restoration along with some measurements that I made. I hope this will help all of you that have been wondering about this. I measured from the same spot on each figure. Here is what I found:

Version 1 -- This version has the widest stance -- the distance between the feet when standing -- at 7 3/4 inches. It is 23 1/4 inches tall from the floor to the tip of the crown headpiece. It measures 11 1/4 inches at the shoulders from the seam on the side of the left shoulder to the seam on the side of the right shoulder. The head is 3 11/16 inches from the base of the neck to the tip of the crown. The torso from the crotch to the base of the neck is 8 1/2 inches. The chest chevron is 9 inches across from tip to tip and juts 1 inch out from the chest. It carries 5 missiles on each leg and 2 on each shoulder.

Version 2 -- 7 1/4 inches stance. 23 1/2 inches tall. 11 1/2 inches at the shoulders. 3 9/16 inches at the head. 8 1/4 inches at the torso. The chest chevron is 8 inches across and juts 13/16th of an inch out. It carries 5 missiles on each leg and 2 on each shoulder

Version 3 -- 6 3/4 inches stance. 23 1/2 inches tall. 11 3/4 inches at the shoulder. 3 1/2 inches at the head. 8 1/4 inches at the torso. The chest chevron is a sticker. It carries 3 missiles on each leg and 2 on each shoulder.

As most of you know, the first version Mazinger has the "knee" (the raised area where the red sticker goes on the leg) that is partially on the calf and partially on the thigh. The second and third versions moved the knee all the way onto the calf.

I am posting a series of photos of these three figures. If anyone needs a close up of anything, let me know. Also, if you want me to measure something I did not measure, let me know. I hope this is helpful.

Again, first on left and third on right. Note the differences in the head on the first and second figure -- the tips of the silver crown are taller and the whole thing is narrower on the first, which is why the second version Condor won't fit in the first version head (although the first Condor will fit in the second head).

A little tighter shot of the engine nozzles. This is the easiest way to tell these apart. Sorry this shot is a little blurry, but I can't get in tight enough with the camera. I think you can still see what I am talking about.

Front shot of the two Condors with the first version on the left. Side by side from the front, it is hard to tell the difference. By the way, these are original Condors and not repros. Of course, the Condor in the third version is permanently attached and does not remove from the head.

Finally, the missile hand. The hand on my first version is a dark blue and was one of the Popy hands that you can buy individually. The hands on the other two are three-screw black hands. There is a four screw dark blue hand that looks more like a Mazinger hand, and I have read elsewhere that these were on the first version Mazingers. However, they appear to be more scarce than they would be had they come on every first version Mazinger, so I suspect that this a variant that was discontinued early on in the first version.
