How do I clean my beat-up old jumbos?
Get ready, this will shock you...
I work in a restaurant as a Dishwasher, so, I place
my jumbos inside the Dishwasher machine several times
to remove the old stickers and dirt.
The water inside the machine reaches to about
180 degrees Fahrenheit. That's hot enough to
severely burn your skin to a raw blister; but the
plastic on these big guys can stand that kind of
hot water heat.
The machine soap and sanitizer won't harm
the plastic material, and it won't discolor the jumbo.
After the first run, I bring it out and immediately
scratch off any sticker residue with my fingernail
or a sthingy, or I'd use a green abrasive scrubby pad.
Once out of the machine the plastic is soft,
allowing the removal of limbs and other body parts.
I continue scratching the sticker goo off of
the jumbo's surface, and I try to work fast before
the dissipating heat dries the residue.
Meanwhile, the jumbo is cooling down and regaining
its rigidness.
If any sticker residue remains, I run the jumbo through
the machine once more and repeat the steps described
above. DO NOT run the jumbo through the dishwasher
machine again right away; let it cool off for a few minutes
BEFORE you run it through the machine again.
My Voltron jumbo still has some sticker residue on it;
so I run him through the machine at least twice per
week to keep him clean so he'll be ready for me to
continue working on him some more.
I'm in no hurry to modify my Voltron jumbo right now.
If you have a dishwasher machine at home,
the same principle applies.
I'm not worried about getting my Voltron to look
as clean as the one shown in the messages above.
My plan is to remove all the sticker gungus from his
body, and sand him so that I can re-paint him.
Ultimately, I plan to replace the decal details in his
armor with custom cast resin detail pieces such as
the tucked-in lion legs and the funky King Alfor
coat-of-arms emblem in his chest.
The biceps, waist, thighs, and small lion details
will all be painted in metallic brush-on paint.
I also plan to re-build the elbows by getting rid of
the stupid "deodorant roll-on" ball-joint elbows
and making pivot joints like the ones in the
Trendmaster Voltron lions.
For now, I have my jumbo Voltron displayed
in the kitchen at work. My kitchen crew love
him so much, so I leave him there for them
to admire him.

Thanks zozo-mag,
You should've seen the Voltron when I received him. He was covered in dust and was downright filthy! It took quite some time to clean him up and remove all the stickers. I sent him off to G1 as clean as a whistle. Now, the real hardwork is ahead of him, lol!! Can't wait to see what a 24" die-cast Voltron clone will look like!
