The body on that Grendizer looks familiar... ...a few years ago there was a line of Hong Kong bootleg "jumbos" consisting of Mazinger-Z, Great Mazinger, and Grendizer... the limbs and bodies were all cast from the dame mold, while the heads were perfect. Here's mine, from that same time period, while I was custom-painting it... Look at the shoulders on mine, and look at the shoulders on that Grendizer......... similar, isn't it. I wish I had kept it with me here at home, but it's in Puerto Rico with most of my robot collection. Would luv to score the Great Mazinger version, but now they're hard to find. I had just watched that video right now and realized that Grendizer and my Mazinger are from the same toy line. I don't know who manufactured it. While the body parts look generic, the heads look very well made. The Pilder on my Mazinger doesn't come off, it's part of the head, and the head was cast from a two-part mold. This is definitely a knockoff made in Hong Kong or somewhere around there. I like these KOs because they look so simple to make and customize; which is why they appeal to me so much. If you have any one of these KO jumbos, count yourself lucky. They may not be worth much but they have some weird coolness about them. zozo-mag

Thanks magengar that looks to be from same line. I knew it was a knockoff but i still thought it was cool. I went to toy show today and it caught my eye right away. I was happy to pay the 20 bucks for it cause i have never seen one.

You paid $20 for it! Lucky you! I can't remember how much I paid for mine (from an HK seller at eBay) but I know I paid much more for mine.
I categorize it as "the rare-weird-but-Coolest-gottahave-item" because I know sooner or later it won't be around anymore; and those of us who have it were the lucky ones to score it. ;D
I'll search eBay and see of I can find the Great Mazinger version. Gotta have it to go with my Maz.

Those things usually go for a lot more!
Congrats!
If you can peel off that decal and send a scan of it too me. Lowres is fine. I can make a nice printed vinyl piece in the Shogun Red color normally used.

I have the Great Mazinger one. I bought it last year as an impulse buy, and it is a cool display piece at work.
These guys are becoming scarce, but the rarer ones are the ones that originally came the rocket punch gimmick.

I hear ya. This particular line doesn't have any weapons gimmicks such as Rocket-punches.
The material on these is softer than the typical jumbo machinder plastic, so these are a little easier to cut and customize however you like.
Just be VERY CAREFUL cutting into these and any other toy specimen... knives have an unpredictable way of slipping through plastic and cutting you deeeeep.

If you bought it last year then these must still be around I guess. I've been looking for the Great Mazinger all over ebay, and searching back through my eBay history, to no avail. I'll just have to keep searching until I find one. zozo-mag I have the Great Mazinger one. I bought it last year as an impulse buy, and it is a cool display piece at work. Funny thing is that on the cardboard to seal the bag has the Japanese Popy logo misspelled and it says Grendizer in Japanese. It also mentions the Rocket Punch action in English, probably from the previous toy that the mold was stolen from. It was not cheap, but it is not an item that I see every day...

Yeah, I see that....... Mazinger, with Grendizer legs and feet, pedestrian crosswalk designer forearms, and a pink waistline. How Cuuuuuuuuuuuute! ;D Speaking of Knockoffs...... I've yet to see Anyone in this hobby introduce themselves as the Hardcore KNOCKOFF collector. The rest of us collect the usual toys. But I know there HAS to be a collector who is strictly into collecting nothing but Knockoffs. Now THAT would be a sight to behold! Here's one with the Rocket Punch gimmick. Ready? ...On your mark, get set, LAUGH......... ;D zozo-mag

I have been seeing alot of knock offs lately and have been tempted to buy. I really had to hold myself back from the ko golion with t-28 arms but i didnt think i should have to pay that much for a ko when i can put it towards the real deal, but if they was cheaper i would have them all

I like that King of the Jungle with the T28 arms too. Quite a few boots fascinate me as well. This gawdy looking Maz above reminds of the relic statues of our ancestral antiquity.
Maybe we should have a likeness cast in stone so he will last for another hundred generations for someone to dig up when we are long gone!
"Look parental units our ancestors had wheels growing out of their lower appendages and giant craniums". "Scary looking primates".

lol..... I certainly understand what you mean by not paying high price for what could be an awful KO. I wouldn't do so either.
There comes that one time chance at scoring a beautiful KO at a killer deal if you're into highly authentic KOs that very closely resemble the real thing. I can appreciate that kind of collector in this hobby.
And then on the artistic side of this hobby, I'd be amused to see an individual or small unsung group of collectors who specialize in KOs of all sorts, even the ridiculous looking KOs such as the one shown above. Have all them KOs in a huge gallery display about the size of Baron Weirwulf's display, ya know.
If I could explore that route I wouldn't spend hundreds of tons of money on expensive KOs from eBay. I'd score the KOs from local dollar stores, thrift shops, and junky garage sales, and even off of Craigslist if I could spot any there. Just for the eccentricity and quirkiness of having a gang of KOs on a shelf of their own. Then I can just grab one and customize it into other cool toys. I'm also entertained by KOs that look like they've been thrown under a running lawnmower and splashed with Drano. lol Quite simply, wierd KOs don't even get much love! LOL!!! ;D

Well it seems 2004 is the date for this bootleg and made possibly by a company in china called boby. After i got the date i googled it and found an article all about it. I knew when i bought iit it kinda had a newer look to it but 2004 dang i thought it was least in the 90's lol but im still happy to have it since i dont have the popy one yet.
