Are these so rare that once someone has one they never let them go. I am yet to find one on ebay. I know they had to be mass produced, was they all broken and thrown away? I would love to add some to my collection but first i need to find some. Anyone know where they are hiding?

They do appear very occasionally. Especially the bootleg ones. Haven't seen any recently though.

As I recall, Rodman managed to find a MIB Battle Fever on Ebay last August/September so they do pop up from time to time.

@lexcars:
it depends on the tryder's condition, but then US$7000 is still high even if it is unassembled and complete. I take reference from rodman's BFJ unassembled price he won last year. Still I am keen to see the specimen, do you have the link to it? I cant seem to find it..i always have problems with ebay due to my IE8 ;D

the tryder was for sale last year....sorry for the hopes....it was a little beat, the seller listed it for 3 months, starting at 8,000.00 and dropped to 7....I wrote the seller, he stated it will be 7,000 or it will stay with me.....wish I would have kept it in my watch list. There are 2 jumbo boot leg tryders for sale now...well as of last night..99.00 and 102.00

I'm very sorry, those are Danguard Ace bootlegs, and not Tryder....... Does anyone else here, have dreams of get a new robot factory, opening the box for the very first time, and getting to put it together ?? and of course, then my boys would play with it !!!!! My boys have cases full of hotwheels and matchbox cars...but when they get out the Vintage Sto and Goes, who's cars do they get out ???Mine, I still have 6 cases of the cars I had when I was little, my 4 yr old, loves the matchbox rolamatics, and construction vehicles, while my 8 yr old goes for the old redline cars that has wheels you can remove, and swap.... Thats how my jumbo fetish got started , they dug out my Raydeen and Dragun, out of my parents attic......then came the DVD's, they need to watch the shows.including my favorite...ULTRAman....I wish they could got to the toy store and buy jumbos like we could... and they only cost 14.99 when the came out....well the mattel versions did, I never seen any popy for sale, growing up, but I'm sure they could have been ordered ? And sell new jumbos for 300.00 is just bull crap...no way in hell, does it cost that much to build one...business are just too use, to making great profits .....example, how much does it cost to make 1 barbie doll ??less than 1 dollar...how much do they sell for....10.00 and up, we the consumer have just became to .........stupid...and swallow are guts, and pay out the ass....I think all items sold should have the actual cost to build, placed right on the package, for the world to see !!!!!

Actually, for a production run of 1000 units or less, $200+ for a plastic toy the size of a jumbo is quite reasonable.
First off, you have to remember that due to inflation $15.99 back in 1974 would be closer to $70 in today's money.
Then you have to understand that the production costs involved include the costs for the factory molds which need to be machined out of metal to ridiculous tolerances in order to allow the figures to be assembled correctly. And for a jumbo sized figure, each mold can easily run between $6,000-$12,000.
And there are typically between 6-12 molds required per figure.
So basically you are looking at setup costs which can average $100k or more just to get a new figure into production.
And then there are the costs of materials, labor, packaging, shipping not to mention licensing fees and costs to pay for the designs of the toy in the first place.
Which means that if they are only producing 1000 of the toys those pieces would have to be priced at $250-300 in order to be worth the trouble to even bother considering to making them.
Now if they were being mass produced to the scale that Popy and Mattel did back in the 70's (100,000+ units) then yes, the toys would be considerably less expensive probably coming in around $100-150 per figure (depending upon the complexity of the toy and number of accessories) however there just isn't a great enough demand for the things to support that degree of commitment from the manufacturer.
