Theses are rereleases by bandai of the old gokin from the 70s. I really like these, can someone tell me all the robots in this collection and their names? I know a few:
GT-01 Mazinger
GT-07 Getter Liger
GT-08 Combattler
GT-10 Voltes V
GA-09R reideen
Anyone know the rest? Why are some 'gt; and some 'ga'?

They are re-releases of vintage Popy toys. The GA-09R is actually slightly larger than the original GA-09 Raideen, but it uses gold paint in lieu of some yellow parts. A very well made toy.
The GT series are known as "The Chogokin" line. They are smaller versions of the original Popy toys, but they are faithfully reproduced in this smaller scale with the accessories and all. Fantastic toys. All of us vintage collectors wish they had continued the line beyond the original 10 (plus a few alternate version) toys.

As for the GT and GA definitions, it's just the series label they are under. Sort of like the SOC line under the GX banner. Here's a lot more info on the rest of the G- : toyboxdx.com/datafiles/data/popy_data/popy_index.htmClick on the G_ on the top of the page in the link to view what's listed.. Gold

Yes, as Gold mentioned. Just to elaborate a little further, Popy started their labeling system with GA-01 and PA-01 when they first started manufacturing these toys. The G_ series were for the robot or humanoid toys, while the P_ series were for the vehicles associated with the shows. In some cases, some of these vehicles were used to create the larger combiner robots, so you will see some toys (like Daltanias DX) with a combination of G_ and P_ parts. And in some cases (like Voltes V DX), you will see all five parts listed under the P_ series! Basically, they started with the _A-01 designation for both the G_ and P_ lines, ran to about _A-99, then started fresh with _B-01 and followed suit. Popy disappeared in the midst of the GC_ series, and Bandai took over, but kept that same designation system in place and continued through the GD_ series. So some of the newer toys under the GC_ series are often called Popy products but were actually Bandai productions. During more recent years, Bandai reissued some of the classic toys (such as the Raideen, Robocon, and also black and gold versions of several toys), and they gave these toys additional nomenclatures. For example, the reissued Raideen was GA-09R (R standing for reissue, obviously). Of course, Popy released some black and gold vintage toys, but here I am referring to newer releases made by Bandai, typically for festivals and such. Around 1997, Bandai started with the Soul of Chogokin line, and thus they started numbering with GX-01. GX-01 was Mazinger Z, honoring the first in the GA line, Mazinger Z (GA-01). More recently, Bandai released ten robots under the "The Chogokin" line. These were numbered GT-01 through GT-10. These were smaller versions of the classic Popy toys, but faithful renditions otherwise. Then they went back and issued a few special releases in this line, like a black Raideen (with a B designation at the end) and an older version of Mazinger Z (labelled GT-00 since this version preceded the version made in GT-01). I think that about sums it up. Hopefully this helps.

BTW, we really need to get the GT- series into our database. I think I will start working on that...

I love the THE line.. got into them too late... just finally picked up Mazinger Z yesterday. Werent they like 1000 or so yen when released? Now they command hefty prices for their size.
I didnt realize the reideen reissue was bigger than the vintage one either. Good stuff

Yup, they were dirt cheap when they were first released, gone a handful of them under 10usd, but the same cannot be said of the rest. The most highly sort after and most expensive piece is voltes v.

Bro mecha-mecha I see you have a couple of black raideens, that the one I'm missing to complete my set Anyway it's a great line, highly recommended, like many here, I feel it's a pity Bandai stopped at Voltes. Would have been awesome if they continued w Daimos, Gaiking and Grendizer.
