Has anyone seen the Transformers 20th Anniversary DVD Re-Color Edition? The packaging is nice, with a hologram cover. Kinda expensive though. I wonder what Re-color meant?

Do you mean the 20th Anniversary DVD Movie or the 20th Anniversary DVD Optimus Prime action figure?
I don't think there was a re-colour of the DVD 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime figure so you must mean the new re-mastered movie with the lenticular cover by Don F. It's suppose to have added footage and have been digitally re-coloured with some extra bonuses. Haven't picked one up yet but I already have three versions of the movie already so I'm in no rush.

Yeah, I mean the remastered movie. I have the laserdisc version, does it really make a big difference?

I'm not sure, I know that the new release is now in widescreen and there are new scenes and bonus features but I haven't seen this version yet to really know what differences there really are.

The Anniversary DVD really is a must-have. The entire film is remastered and cleaner than ever. Being two discs, it is also viewable in either Widescreen or Fullscreen. Something to mention though, the original footage was all done in Fullscreen, so the top and bottom is actually cut off for Widescreen. For example, when Arcee and Springer are transforming Autobot city, the part when the top of the cannon turret turns to the screen and is finally accented with a sparkly spinning "bling" at the tip of the barrel is cut off and not visable. So the Widescreen is more of a novelty than it is truly original and authentic. In this rare case, I actually still prefer watching it in Fullscreen. There are also hidden "Easter Eggs" that feature old TF and even Diaclone commercials. Even though you can watch them all on Youtube, it's still cool to see them "on TV". hehe One more thing I will say is, because the 20th Anniversary DVD picture is brightened and made more crisp, the previous Rhino DVD seems darker and grittier and almost has a different mood all together. For this reason, I don't consider the 20th Ann version a *replacement* for the Rhino one. It's just another nice version to have, and is much more affordable for any of us who may not have the Rhino one. All in all, either way, I'd still recommend the new one too. Not to mention, fellow RJ members, and TF comic legends DonFig and dcjosh did the DVD cover and insert art.

I did a post about this. It's definitely clearer. The post I did was a response to the fact that they are re-releasing the G1 boxed sets...AGAIN! And I was like WTF?
But it was explained to me that Sony bought the rights, so they are going to have a go at re-releasing the entire series. (AND I JUST BOUGHT ALL OF THE RHINO RELEASE!! GREEAT!)
Is that true Rob? I have both versions...but I don't recall the previous DVD of the movie by Rhino...only the box sets.

So that is why I got it. I was really impressed by the DVD case art. I never knew who did them... No wonder. And I do have the old version too. You are right - an "uncleaned up" dvd version is not necessarily a poorer version. I hate to see very vibrant colors when specially in this movie, Prime dies!!!

Yeah, the Rhino version of the movie is a shade or two darker in color. For example, in the Rhino version Prime is a deeper shade of red, and on the 20th Anniversary version he is much brighter. Dare I say, almost a dark reddish pink? Really, it's hardly noticable. But I noticed it, and so did my brother when I mentioned it and showed him. The new one is definitely cleaner and LOADED with cool extras, but something about the roughness and darker film gives the Rhino one a darker, more serious tone that keeps me popping it into the DVD player for more. But that's just me. I don't recall anyone else commenting on any of this. Just my own observations.

Yeah old one is on your right hand side, the one with the classic Transformers the Movie poster illustration, the other one is the newer hologram cover that changes from Prime holding the Matrix to Rodimus.

DVD Shrink! You are going to lose some quality, resolution and proabably get some artifacts. Get a dual-layer media, it really ahs come down in price and it is well worth the burn. Or buy the DVD, it is only $19.99.

Manila? Ummm that's a long ways from San Francisco. Look Online, albeit with the shipping, it may be cheaper to buy it for $40 over there. Bestbuy has it for $19.99 it was $14.99 when it first came out in November. I say check out eBay or dude don't y'all have it like HK? Cheap DVD's?

Yeah, Mac is good.. but I got the lowest model that my bank account can afford... I'm thinking of investing in an external DVD writer. Anyway, I;m gonna check out my newly burnt TF Recolor movie...
