Yup, looks pretty innovative but at 1/72 it will be pretty small and to bring out the best you will need some decent modeling skills.

Its a model kit but not like the Yamato one which was bigger at 1/60 scale and was pretty much just a unassembled toy version. The Bandai one is suppose to feature gimmicks that haven't been done before in any form. Personally I think it looks a little off. The separate details and gimmicks look nice but as a whole it just doesn't look as good as the Yamato 1/60 toys or models.

Yamato really nailed that model kit! Its really solid! I wish arcadia would continue the Macross instead of doing those sexy F dolls!

It sure is.
While building the model I went into it with an open mind and was blown away by the level of details and parts. Also, because of the way it was developed there are infinite diorama possibilities for all modes.
Overall it still turned out to be a major pain getting through the build. So many parts and over engineering really lead this to a flaming downward spiral of depression.
If you are planning to build this kit, go into it blindly and do your best. That's all you can hope for, and keep in mid this is not a toy.

I'm almost finished with it. Just need to finish applying the stickers. The engineering on this thing amazes me but I don't like the proportions. The 1S head seems too big plus the torso looks too long in battroid mode. Still, not bad for $45 bucks.

Just curious, what does "perfect transformation" actually mean?

It means no part swapping. =) Ah....ic...that means the first release of chogokin vf-25 range are not because they involve swapping of hands when transforming to fighter mode. How about the renewal ones? Still the same problem?

How about the renewal ones? Still the same problem? Actually, a better example would be Yamato's VF-1. The V.1's needed to have the legs detached in order to transform from fighter/gerwalk to battroid. The v.2 did not hence the term "Perfect Trance" you see on the boxes. It also applies to add on parts. If you ever seen the SOC Gunbuster, it's not a perfect transformation because it requires add on parts when you split it into vehicle mode.

From reading so many forums and explanations to the term perfect-transformation.
Perfect transformation is not in reference to, not being or being a parts-former. More so, it's the ability of transforming between modes and being able to maintain the "perfect" form after transformation is completed. So even though you have to remove parts from the V.1 Yamato or this new 1/72 VF-1 they are both perfect-transformation mecha.
This term has been thrown around so many times that it's distorted.

Most macross fans were dissappointed with this kit, guess they were expecting a semi kit/toy from their $45 benchmark which bandai failed to impress their fans....
