Hey everyone,
I was curious if anyone knew the differences of the 2 Metal Composite RX-78 (1004 and 1009) other than the source material and she shield direction.
Was the 1004 a good release? Or should it be skipped in favor of the 1009
Thanks in advance

There is an abundance of differences and it all boils down to which version of the RX-78-2 you like personally. Here is a link where there are comparison pictures between the two. abdner.blog.163.com/blog/static/17076230820118661457404/Personally, I like the look of the 1009 because it resembles the life size statue in Tokyo. I have the MG version of the First ver.Ka, which the 1004 is based on. I don't like the look much, if you look at the head, there is a long side vent which the original RX-78-2 didn't have. I like my RG version of the RX-78-2 most. Wished it was made in 1/100 scale. Also, this first ver.KA design is kind of dated. Correct me if I am wrong but is t the 1004 just a reissue of the 1001 without the G-Fighter unit? Anyway, hope this helps.

1004 was based on the anime. 1009 was based on the Gundam Origin manga that pretty much retold the story MS 0079 story, So it comes with extra parts that you can put together to represent the many different upgrades that the Gundam RX-78-02 had during its adventures. JoshB did a decent review of 1009, here is the link: www.collectiondx.com/toy_review/2011/gundam_origin_rx7802Yes, the booklet came with the first release of the toy.

Thanks guys. I had been able to find reviews on the 1009 but less on the 1004. I had been leaning to the 1009 but wanted to do more research first. The comparison page will be VERY helpful.

I have both; both are equally awesome. 1009 gets more play factor out of it, with all the removable parts and pieces.

I have the #1001 and the #1009. #1004 is a reissue of #1001 without the G-Fighter. I personally like the appearance of the RX-78-2 #1001/#1004 version, but I agree with clobberator that the #1009 has more play value, especially without the G-Fighter. The #1009 really showcases the more recent engineering advances incorporated into the Metal Composite line-up with greatly improved articulation and a boatload more gimmicks over the #1004 (removable parts, opening compartments). I think the G-Fighter included with #1001 is fantastic BTW -- with real rubber treads and diecast metal.

I have both the #1001 and #1009 on display, i find that the #1009 much more articulated as what the author of the comparison article mentioned and i definitly prefer it over the #1001 anytime.
