I've heard fairly good things about Plum's kits though, specifically their R-type kits, so hopefully this should be a nice quality piece.

Amen there, sir. That's looking like a "sale" purchase for me instead of an at-launch purchase. Glad somebody is taking on some of the more obscure game mecha though.

I have the Plum R-type kit, but have yet to build it. I had to get that to redeem my self on the crappy quality of the resin recast I got years ago.

Weren't these some expensive resin kits back in the day?

There have been a couple of resin kits done before, I know. I think some of them you can still get recasts of on hobbyfan and the like (is hobbyfan still around?)
