It has been a while now since I had this idea of making a super robot themed shirt. Thing is, I wanted it to be something simple, using an image that's easy to print and that doesn't sound "otaku" among the crowd. The first thing that I thought of was Getter-1. His face has all those green and yellow details, so I thought they could be used to make somekind of silhouette or simple art. So I found this image of Shin Getter Robo: I have almost no image editing skills, but I did some clean up in the colors and completed the horns and shoulders: Now I think this could be used to make the shirt. It as simple and basic as I wanted and allows some easy editing even in MSPaint. I also made some other (extreme simple) repaints of the image using MSPaint, just to see how it would be: (If I remember correctly, the training version of Shin Getter was featured in Getter Robo Daikessen, for the Playstation) Perhaps, should things work out right with this, I could try using other Getter faces: www.google.com/imgres?um=1&safe=off&sa=N&hl=pt-PT&biw=1600&bih=775&tbm=isch&tbnid=Hl7A1_fiQRppcM:&imgrefurl=http://www.mangareader.net/getter-robo-anthology/1/7&docid=Pca2eOVFFsF5OM&imgurl=http://i1.mangareader.net/getter-robo-anthology/1/getter-robo-anthology-2208655.jpg&w=1200&h=863&ei=-Bh_UYumBsKU0QGD4YDoBQ&zoom=1&ved=1t:3588,r:54,s:0,i:254&iact=rc&dur=211&page=2&tbnh=166&tbnw=232&start=32&ndsp=42&tx=78&ty=109

That's really awesome stuff there, Luizssb! Will it be printed on a shirt, using the block-print technique or the traditional silk-screen printing method? I often contemplate doing something similar with a Mazinger head silhouette. zozo-mag

Now, I must check what I can do with it in the region where I live. I hope to be able to print it in a basic shirt without making the stamp a "plaque". And Mazinger would be another great robot to make a shirt of, using a sillhouette more or less like the one in the GX-45 Comic Color box:

It can be done, just go to any t-shirt print shop and show them your designs. It could be expensive, depending on how many colors you want to use. Most screen-print shops are limited to just a four-color print process; and they might require you to print a minimum order number of shirts (12 or more). At least That is how it's done here in the U.S. It could be different in your country, if you look around perhaps you'll find a shop or person who will print a few shirts for you. Your designs there look quite simple, so the shops should have no difficulty preparing the screens for those designs. Let us know how you make out. Buena Suerte! zozo-mag

I checked here in the city where I live and there was a shop which was able to make the stamp for just one shirt, so I decided to test the printing using a spare white cotton shirt I had. To make things easy, I decided to edit a little the original image, removing the shoulders and simplifying the area around the ears/spikes. The result (Aoshima New Getter for size comparison): Overall, being this a test, I'm happy with it. Fortunately, it was possible to print only the face without any background and the quality of the stamp turned out to be better than what I had imagined. I don't about the method used to print, but I was informed that this was the biggest size possible, because, for some reason, the stamp had to fit in a A4 paper sheet.

That Getter head print looks really sharp against that white tshirt! A4 paper is correct. Any bigger than That would require a larger screen, resulting in those large head horns being wrapped around the sides of the shirt when worn; and it would cost more because of the size of the screen and the amount of ink used. That size right there looks perfect. The Getter head can be seen entirely right in front. Just so you have an idea of how some screen printer shops work, Some screen print shops use the following method: The print has to be centered on the shirt... ...the top most (highest) part of the head would be those two large black head horns at their tips-- place the tips 4" down from the collar (the front of the neck). Since the tips are also the widest parts of the head they have to measure the same equal distance from the edge of the shirt on both sides, toward the center. (sample image below) ...you don't have to worry about any measurements from the bottom of the shirt, because your design will always be centered onto the shirt as long as it is placed according to the measurements of the top and side guidelines. That applies designs of any size. If you were to print a small head towards the left side of the shirt (left-chest print) then the bottom of the head would be placed 1 inch above the "pocket" (the breast area where a normal shirt pocket would be). Again, that print right there looks good. You found a very good print shop to handle your custom order. zozo-mag

Came out nice, but too small IMO. A shame that it can't be made bigger. Something sized at 75% of the front of the t-shirt would look absolutely awesome! }D

magengar: Thanks for the explanation. I didn't really put any thought about the measurements and position of the stamp, but now I understand what has been done. I will certainly take it into account with my next "experiments"... lol @tmz: Initially I thought the same, but then, after some "test-driving" with the shirt, I think it's best this way. If it was bigger, it would probably end up being not discrete, what is not exactly my intention, also there was what magengar said. Should the image have more square-like dimensions I think a bigger size would be better. I'm already thinking what I should do next, a better version of this shirt or a new one using another robot. I will probably use this for sometime time, to see how it holds up.

I know what you mean, but I like the images to be part of the shirt, not just "on the shirt". }D

It's nice, but I don't really like the dark eyes. I know it's a negative image of the pic you found, but if I were making this shirt, myself, I would have whitened the eyes. Like this : Quick and crappy edit. I don't have any decent image editing software installed on this machine, so I MSpainted the hell out of it. I erased the neck parts too. I don't know, I think it looks better without them.

Maybe do 3 heads on one shirt of the 3 different Getters. That would look great,or even 3 of this head in 3 colors.Either would take up more room on the shirt.

Should I make a "true" version, I will probably do it
