RJ community,
Just curious what everyone's thoughts would be regarding the following question.
What is considered the Holy Grail of vintage super robots? Holy Grail being the most highly sought after, rarest, and most valuables toy out there?

Guess many folks will regard the SG-01 or godaikin tetsujin 28 as one of the holy grails of 70-80s robot collecting. But to me, a minty GA-37 grendizer will be my holy grail even though i own the tet 28. Another nice to have and rare piece for me would be the takatoku elintseeker.

Yeah, the Godaikin/Chokinzoku Tetsujin is definitely one of them. But as far as rare grails go, probably the DX Combination Program Clover Zambot III, Bullmark Technical Gasshin DX Mekanda Robo, the black version of DX Daltanias, Buildplan Daikengo.
Some of my personals grails when I started collecting were the Takatoku DX Goshogun, Clover DX Tryder, DX Daidenjin, DX Voltes V, DX Combattra, Godaikin Golion, the GA-37 Grendizer and, of course, the Godaikin/Chokinzoku Tetsujin.
I'm just glad I don't collect Jumbos. I'll take vintage gokin grail prices over japanese jumbo prices. Ouch...

For the masses in this hobby, I think the Chokinzoku represents the holy grail. While others are more rare and expensive, this is one of the most recognizable robots made by the most prolific company of that time. Its one of the earliest robots, and it spawned follow-up shows. Tetsujin 28 is iconic. But of course this toy seems to be very common now. If you have the cash, it can be had, so in some sense, it is not a holy grail in terms of difficulty in obtaining it. But I think it still represents the most highly coveted toy among the masses. For those who already have one (which certainly are a lot of people), maybe they seek out a new hard-to-get toy. But if you start with a blank slate where you have nothing in your collection, this seems to be a must-have.
I guess it all depends on how you interpret the holy grail aspect of it all. "Holy Grail being the most highly sought after, rarest, and most valuables toy out there." I think each of these three aspects might yield a different answer. To me, it generally means the most highly sought after, and thus my answer above.

KingBoyD,
That was well said. Tell me more about this Chokinzoku. I've never even heard of this toy. Do you have a web link you could post or PM?

Got it. I know this one from the Godaikin line. I like the voltes v godaikin better though.

The Holy Grail for Godaikins is not a Tetsujin 28 in my book, to common. I would have to say a complete and mint/near mint Daimos or the super rare Machine Man. Maybe even more than those is the chrome jointed Godaikin/Popy Golion. Tetsujin 28s are a dime a dozen compared to these 3 rare Godaikins. I only have the Machine Man to speak of. The others still allude me. Looking for a Daimos as we speak but they are hard to find complete and in nice condition.

The Bullmark Daibaron DX is pretty elusive. I wish I'd been able to reclaim Ed's during the epic Morphy auction last year.

If we're talking GoDaiKin, I think KingboyD hit the nail on the head. There's a big difference between the most covetted 'grail' and the most rare. Tetsujin 28 is the one people hold up and respect when they see it, but for me the 2 versions of Machine Man, Daileon, and the Goggle Ceasar were MUCH harder to find, and still aren't seen in the wild nearly as often as Tetsujin Daimos or Leopardon.
For ME, my grail, while not really vintage, is the Wonderfest kit that changes the SOC Mazinger into Gekigangar III. Been after that one since day 1 with no luck.

Both kingboy and dragon law are correct. For an overall grail, it is the T28, because well, it's so recognized.
For personal grails, or just "rare" figures on general I agree with those other toys mentioned above, along with DX Daimos.
Godaikin DX BioMan/Popy DX BioRobo is another one that is tough to find MIB complete with all paperwork and the missile rack and the Jet 1 pilot figure. Pricing has fluctuated wildly on this lately, and I was finally able to get one for my collection at a price I was happy with (still about double what I had expected to pay for one since the price had started to jump).
