Does anyone have a pic of bottom of original Go-Lion's feet? Did it originally include wheels?

The jumbo GoLion's feet never had any wheels as all the other ordinary Popy and Mattel jumbo machinders do. The jumbo GoLion stands on a motorized pedestal. The GoLion jumbo does not "snap"-attach to the stand, it just stands on top of the motorized pedestal. The pedestal is controlled by a wired device used to steer the pedestal as it rolls around on the floor or other flat top surface.... just like a wired remote-controlled toy car. I don't have that stand, I only have the jumbo GoLion. I took it apart to restore/modify it. ( sometimes it's called Voltron, but I personally prefer to call it by its original Japanese name GoLion.) This jumbo GoLion was made around the '80s by LJN (licenced by WEP) as a toy merchandise to promote the Voltron cartoon. The pic shown below is Not my jumbo GoLion, it is by courtesy of eBay. zozo-mag

Thanks. I actually have the LJN Commander Voltron. I was referring to the original Popy Go-Lion Jumbo version. i have the LJN that I am currently cleaning and de-stickering and I obtained a set of the Popy Go-Lion version repro stickers from Will-Ohio and also a set of the red and green missles that simulate the original Go-Lion's from Derik at Shogun Parts. I'm going to put a bit of weight in his feet and minus the missle launchers in the fists I want to have as close an approximation to the original popy as possible. I'm just not sure if the original Popy had wheels. I've seen a few pics on YJ of him standing but in every pic I've seen it looks like it does not have wheels. If Popy did I'm considering finding a way to add some wheels to bottom of his feet. One thing for certain is that he's sure as hell not going back on his motorized platform!

I think that the OP is asking about the Popy Jumbo not the LJN Voltron which I believe did not have wheels.

I've learned something new..... ...I honestly never knew a Popy jumbo GoLion existed, since I rarely follow other robot toys outside the usual Mazinger stuff. Thanks for the heads-up! zozo-mag

That's why I'm so glad I found this forum! I'm learning new stuff here all the time. Ok good no wheels. I like him better that way anyway. Now I'll just need to find a pair of original Popy forearms with launchers. That should be easy... Not... Nah I'll just be happy with him the way he is. i'll post before during and after pics in the "another Jumbo Voltron Restore" thread when I'm done.

There's a few Popy Jumbo that don't have wheels under their feet. Tetsujin 28, Godmarz, SunVulcan and Golion. And same for most of the Robot Factory, there only Daidenjin have wheels I think.

Gilcholo could I ask you a favor. Would you mind snapping a pic of the side of one of your go-lion's legs a close up of the missle holder that holds the 2 missiles?

Just got my hands on a popy jumbo golion. Noticed the following differences.
Obvious
Popy - Missile holders Popy- Missile firing lion mouths LJN - sword, wire remote control w motorized platform Popy - Missiles, green and red. I notice the red missile seems to be molded in a darker red than normal red missiles. Anyone else notice? Engraved on the back LJN version, LJN Toys, made in USA, WEP, 1984. Popy- Popy symbol, japan, 1981, Golion in Japanese Front chest sticker- Popy has the Golion symbol, the cross and crown yellow instead of orange on LJN. The belt sticker also has this same difference
Not so obvious Popy - Weighted feet Head - the LJN version head is molded orange yellow. Popy version is molded in black. LJN left the eyes and dot on the head the same color. Popy - parts of the head are painted a metallic red. LJN is painted bright red. Back wings - LJN version has two big plastic tacks that attach the wings to the back. Popy version has two molded pieces the wings fit onto. Popy wings are also a darker red Popy - arms are darker red and green
Popy - legs are brighter yellow ( looks better), darker blue. LJN yellow leg is the same molded yellow as the horns
Popy - the polyethylene is also harder and heavier. LJN's version, the polyethylene is softer, feels cheaper.
Last but but not least, the Popy version is a little taller.
I have to say, I like the Popy version much better. For the longest time, I didn't know there were that many differences.
Its probably one of my favorite jumbos. Imagine if LJN never released one how sought out it would be.
Both pieces are great. Since I'm a Golion fan, glad I now have both in my collection. If you are a big Golion fan, I recommend getting Popy version. Well worth it.

There are two versions of the LJN. The one you have with the tacks/plugs to hold the wings on is the second version.
The first version LJN has the pegs that the wings just sit over. They changed this to prevent the wings from falling off as the mounting holes widened from playwear.

Looking at it closer, the LJN version to me is kind of like a bootleg. I know it's licensed but with the cheaper plastic, it has a bootleg feel to it. Even with the nice sword when comparing it to the Popy version, it's almost a different toy. The Mattel Machinders are actually made better for the most part, plastic is comparable to their counterparts.
LJN just wanted to crank out these toys as fast and make them as cheaply as they could to catch the popularity of Voltron. There's nothing wrong with making toys cheaply and quickly.
Just goes to show you that there is a different mentality how the Japanese make toys.
I wonder how these sold in the US at the time, I don't really remember it, Would have loved to see LJN make an attempt at making Dairugger or even Albegas.

Some Golion missiles were auctioned lately page12.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/p521778390Does anyone know how many green and red missiles came with the original Popy? Trying to complete mine. I recently added the LJN sword to it and it looks great!
