They want these new systems to pretty much be the only piece of equipment you need to watch tv, movies, play music, surf the net etc.

I think one thing to note is that, underneath all of the multi media bull there are some REALLY nice specs for a home console with the XB1. I'm not "sold" until I see some game announcements, but I cannot WAIT to see those.

I'm just shuddering to see the price of these new systems :-( I'm thinking close to $600 for the full feature ones.

Well, I guess if a person is just starting out, buying an HDTV and one of these new systems (PS4 or Xbox One) should suffice. }D

I'll stick with my Xbox 360 thank you. So stupid the new one can't play Halo 4. Halo has been one of their top game series for years. Oh well I hope their sales of Xbox 1 fizzle in the first year. It will be funny if 360 sales rocket during the release.

You're right. I'm glad my daughter doesn't really care much about these things. She enjoys the Wii and PS2 way more than the PS3 and Xbox 360 we already have. Lucky for me, of course. }D

I don't know if I mentioned this here but my brother told me supposedly sales of the Wii U jumped 85% after the Xbox keynote. Lord knows Nintendo needs all the help it can get.

I'd read that as well, but with how bad the Wii's sales were, I'm wondering if that simply boosted the console's sales to "mediocre".

I don't think the PSP really did anything significant as far as sales go. Honestly I wasn't impressed with it.
Sony needs to stop making handhelds. Sony and Microsoft and Nintendo need to work on enriching games and content while using restrictions within reason. (Nintendo is kind of doing this). Between them wanting to each be the one solution with all the smart TV integration etc. it's going to be worse than a format war (i.e. blu-ray vs. dvd) and they are going to all get torn apart by mobile games (iOS/android) if they don't cut the bullsh*t and pay attention.
They have one, maybe two generations of consoles left to maintain dominance if they are lucky and play their cards right otherwise there is going to be an insane shake up in the game industry. Once mobile processors get a bit more capable over the next couple of years, the field will level so quickly it will be like dropping an atom bomb.
