I'm sure that there was also a cement truck, which I think looked a lot like that pick-up truck, except with a mixer drum instead of a cargo box. That mixer drum could be removed, with opening flaps that gave it the look of some king of flying mechanical birdy thing (at least that's what I saw in it with my kiddie eyes). When I was a kid, I remember you could get them at some gaz stations when you bought a tankful. Now there's this guy on eBay selling them as "Gobots" and says they were made by Bandai in 1983. I suppose he got the "1983 Bandai" from markings on the toys, so that part could very well be true, but I went through an extensive list of all the Gobots and couldn't find anything that looked even remotely like these. There is a cement truck Gobots, but the mixer drum turns into the robot's head and I'm sure that's not how this toy transformed. So, any idea what they are?

Esso (ExxonMobil here in the US) Robot Racers. Supposedly repainted from an even lesser known line released by Maruka called Change Robo from Japan. There are 8 toys from the Esso set. But I have seen the 8 in different color variations. The Maruka line included more than just vehicles I believe.
I still have the red pickup truck you posted along with the white Mazda rx-7 they released. Got them when I was a kid and love their simplicity.

Cool! Thanks! Do you know who made this "Change Robo" line in Japan?
Chuckled a bit at "high quality toys".
Funny how I never noticed as kid how this robot was shooting sparks from its crotch. I guess my mind was still pure and innocent back them. The years have not been kind to it... oh no...
...
It shoots stuff from its crotch... huhuhuhuhuhuhuuhuhuhuh!

Cool! Thanks! Do you know who made this "Change Robo" line in Japan? Yes, it's in my post above. Maruka Toys in Japan. They made tons of different stuff and I believe they are still in business.

Actually, Esso is the international brand of ExxonMobil, not Shell.

That's a pretty high production commercial for a gas station in the 80s.

Actually, Esso is the international brand of ExxonMobil, not Shell. Fixed. My bad. When we were kids the Shell station up the street always had really cool promo bits (Looney Tunes, toy cars, etc.) The Mobil station at the other end of the street never had much and we didn't have any Hess stations nearby (although we do now).
