Now that the auction has ended I wanted to put out a question to my fellow collectors;
Did anyone see the Popy looking Daimos for auction on YJA? Was it an authentic Popy version or a customized Mattel version? I struggled over bidding on it or not & finally decided not to based on the following;
The stickers were missing from so many different places that I felt it was a Mattel version that was customized. I compared the auction photos to past photos of other Popy Daimos and noticed that most of the foot decals were absent along with the shin decals, lower torso decals, gray arm bands on the forearm cuffs were missing too.
The condition was so good too that I figured there was no way that the missing stickers would have fallen off had it been handled so gently over the years.
What do you guys think? Did I make a horrible mistake and pass up on a Popy gem?
Does anyone know what price it closed out for?
Thanks to all in advance,
Rodman75

If it was a custom Rodman, it was a good one. I didn't look at any of the stickers, but I did look at the missile launchers on the leg. They were there and looked exactly like the one on collection dx. They made the legs look bulkier. I didn't look real close because I figured it would go for more than I wanted, it closed for over $2000... The Dabulas and Tryder closing prices were what I was watching...

I was watching that too Would love to get my hands on some of those Daimos swords. After it went over $1000, though I was finished.

Seems to be an original Popy. He's got the two different hands with the one open to hold the swords attachment. And also have the missile launchers on the legs I think that the stickers missing are mainly the one that were on the original stickers sheet. Not sure about that but I think he came with some stickers put directly at the factory and some you had to put yourself. But I'm really note sure about this, I've never see a full original stickers sheet, so it's hard to tell.
End price was 253.000 Yens

I would love to get my hands on a daimos. Has anyone ever been to a comic con or.something of that nature. Would jumbos be had there or no. I go to a local toy show every few months and all i can ever score are mattel shoguns. I get them at a good price even though I dont need them I cant pass up not getting them. So now I have them all over. But I want to go to bigger shows to see if a rarer piece may be found.

I don't know of anyone that has managed to fabricate the leg rocket launchers, so for me that is what I tend to watch for. Stickers come and go and are easily removed or replicated but intricate rocket firing mechanisms are a lot harder.

Got a link and would say it is a popy version. I don't know of anyone (yet) making the leg missiles and the mattel version, you would have to cut into it, to add them on. I think getting both fists would be hard to obtain, mostly the open hand and having the sword as well.

It was the 2nd ed. Popy version. (1st Ed. Says "Fighting Daimos, 2nd ed. has the Japanese waist sticker like the Mattel). I believe that the "missing" decals on that version do not come on the figure pre-applied.
Definitely vintage Popy.

It was definitely a 2nd version Popy. I think it went for around 2600.00 without adding the commision & sellers fees of course! I don't know about anyone else here but I tried to bid on the Diamos but was blocked by the seller. He didn't allow Rinkya users to bid on it. Did anyone else here have that problem also?

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like I passed up on the real thing. I should've asked this question prior to auctions end through some PM's but oh well. I guess it makes me feel somewhat better knowing it was a 2nd version Popy. I wouldn't have bid that high anyway. I'd rather the 'fighting Daimos' waist decal although either one would suit me just fine.
Thanks for the expert opinions. While we're on the topic, that Tryder G7 was tempting as well. What did that close out for? I'm still hesitant to pull the trigger on anything outside of Popy JM's at this point...specifically Godsigma & Daltanious although I'm sure their closing price would double the price of this recent Daimos auction.
Best,

The Tryder closed for around $750 Rodman.

Dont be so hard with Rodman. No it ended at 141.000 Yens. I'm not a real fan of this serie, but I'm sure they look better in real than in picture.

Well, I know too many people that are after that one, so it will be a bloody fight, just hope that I will be ready for it. But when I see the insane prices for most of the high end pieces, I doubt I will be ready enough. We will see, maybe in a few weeks, few months, or few years....patience, patience.....
