Wow. No. That is very interesting. If this toy wasn't tampered with or swapped out, It must have been an extremely early godaikin release due to the popy yellow elbows and black trays. I would think it is real though.
We know a lot of companies did toys for export and still do, Hasbro did as well with old g1 TF in the 90s (remember Chinese Nightbeats with the sticker, anyone?).
Myles, was this in Japan? Did they note if it was originally sent to Hong Kong, Taiwan etc.?
I have seen two Voltes Vs that were godaikin packaging prototypes and mock ups, one was supposedly sent to Matchbox at the time, possibly when they were looking at what robots (golion etc) that they wanted to import.
This "matchbox" one was on eBay a while back and basically was a full godaikin version that had no outer lid, and the overlay was white cardstock with the windows (hand cut). What was interesting about this overlay? It fit exactly and did not have the funny offset over the sword section like the godaikin production version did.
I have also seen a few different salesman samples (not of voltes) where it's a full popy with popy overlay, popy instructions, but a godaikin outer lid.
I'd like to think that this pretty much reinforces the fact that godaikins are pretty much 100% popy toys and they have little to no variants, other than their box lid/overlay/instructions, and a few of the toys that had sticker variants like Voltes.

Ive seen that "Export Model" Bandai sticker before, and I'm trying to remember how many different Godaikin boxes. At least GoLion, and GodMarz I believe.
Definitely a 1985 sticker, so not an early release box. Very possible it's all legit, or an earlier Popy yellow elbow dozer component was swapped in. I haven't been watching Yahoo like I used to , so I miss everything cool now, LOL.

I guess between original popy, Godaikin, euro Robo machine, and any other French/Italian/etc. variants they pushed these "export models" as well, the point most likely being to sell every damn one of these things that they pumped out.
I see they placed the export model sticker on, but did any of them get the other half of the sticker showing the pricing applied anywhere on the box?

Its possible! here's my own experience. Back in mid 80's my parents , grandparents ,uncles, aunts all went to Tokyo for a trip (Im from the Philippines). Voltes V was the dream toy for all kids, and I was promised one If I agreed to be left at home with my other grandma. After a 1 or 2 weeks they came back with a Godaikin voltes V. Of course its only recently when I started collecting toys again ( upon release of the voltes soc) when I realized that there seemed to be a mismatch. How can they bring home a Godaikin Voltes V instead of a Popy one?? This probably explains it!!

Either that or they probably had it kept somewhere at home before they left for Japan.
