Side topic. What is the original color of Hi Nu in the Beltorchkka Novel? Blue? I could be wrong, but the purple is likely the original color. The blue came from a skinnier update version somewhere down the road. Saw it online somewhere when it was comparing the line art. You can see them in this page, with the older purple chunky round version seem to be closer to the original. Then the blue skinny one with more details as the mid-iteration update. Then the cleaner/sharper chunky one as the more modernized version that inherited by most toys and kits these days. Some toy releases even have them interchangeable in different releases (Metal Robot Damashii, starts out with the blue design, but changed/mixed up with purple). On the Metal Build, I think the paintjob is following the old/original (the purple airbrush look with the polka dot shield), just that the sculpt is completely new doing its own thing. gundam.fandom.com/wiki/RX-93-%CE%BD2_Hi-%CE%BD_Gundam

Hi-Nu HWS vs. Nightingale would look like a mecha sumo match.

Nightingale should be a Beast to scale with hi nu... I doubt bandai will release it... It would be about GX-100 Daikumaryu size, minus the tail. So yeah, not just you. I think Bandai is doubting Bandai will release one as well LOL.

Yup. I thought the Noir would be a P-Bandai release at worst. It being an event exclusive caught me by surprise. Options are either wait and hope Bandai eventually releases this as a P-Bandai release or regular release....or deal with the scalpers on Ebay.

Yeah and this guy looks too cool... even those Who don't know it will want it. I was expecting it to be Pbandai. I'll try to catch one as soon as possible, if not I will wait for it to pop up at mandarake...

My guess is, some form of the Strike Noir mold will hit P-Bandai eventually- because they're not going to use it only once.

They are going to be selling some on P Bandai after the show... but it will be by lottery. If we are lucky, we could see it in the U.S. as an exclusive for WonderCon or the next SDCC. That's what they did with Strike Freedom Soul Blue.

Got my Metal Build Hi-Nu. While didn't get to put the whole thing together, I took out the main body to inspect as I was concerned about the paint QC issue I keep hearing people from HK were bringing up, with some samples having "pimple face" or "orange peel" texture on some parts, particularly the head/helmet. And lo and behold, I scored one once again! The QC curse continues! YAY! The joint tightness consistency is also quite off on mine. While all the joints on the main body ranged from tight to stupidly tight, they are uneven with the same joint on the left arm is tighter/looser than the right, thigh swivel is one leg tighter than the other...etc. Not quite as consistent as my other MBs and Metal Composites. A bit of a shame, as this Hi-Nu is the more anticipated MBs for me for a long while. But bad QC aside, it is indeed beautiful. It also stands about a head taller than the Metal Composite RX-78/Zaku. One interesting tidbit that I realized is as I was looking at its pimple face, it dawn on me that the head sculpt of this MB Hi-Nu is a carbon copy of the Hi-Nu in the manga! I own and read the manga a couple years ago, and I've noticed this Hi-Nu head sculpt is not the typical look you get from previous model kit variants. But it wasn't until last night when I was inspecting the orange peel, while re-reading the manga on the side, that the two is a perfect match! (the rest of the MB body is sort of its own take though, only borrow hints from the manga design) For those who don't know, Takayuki Yanase 柳瀬 敬之 is in charge of drawing all the mechs shots in the Beltochika's Children manga adaptation. And he is also the same artist mecha designer in Mazinger Z Infinity movie (which gave Metal Build Mazinger Z's look in toy form). Here is a direct comparison of the manga panel to my pimple face Hi-Nu (on its left side helmet, close to the cheek, you see it, but a bit blurred). Aside some perspective difference, and the exaggerated 'crown' or forehead camera on the MB, they are almost identical, down to the dots, panel lines, and that tiny side fin. Its cool to see where the inspiration came from.

Yikes... that's a pretty significant QC flaw for a $300+ Metal Build. It would be way more tolerable if it wasn't the head. I was really looking forward to this one, but I'm considering canceling my order and just waiting for the inevitable alternate color release. Then again, there's no guarantee QC would actually be any better on that version.

Bandai's been sloppy on the QC for a while now. So, yeah. Waiting is unlikely to produce a better outcome since you're rolling the dice either way. This is partly why I'm not all that upset about third parties. At this point, their QC is at least as good as Bandai's at this point.

Got the chance to put the Fin Funnels and the main gear on Hi-Nu, I am very impressed. Very solid connections. Some people claiming the Fin Funnels are a real pain, took an hour to put on. To be fair, it can be a bit tricky, but took me less than 10 mins. The trick is to angle the Fin Funnel connector "C" clip at a 30 degree angle and give it a very firm push. If things go well, it will just slide into place with a click. It can be very hard if you don't angle it when you push in.
Weight balance is pretty good. The backpack 'wings' have diecast hinges, so the backpack is not light when all the Fin Funnels and fuel tanks attached. Having Hi-Nu lean slightly forward (and make sure to have the heel slide out/extended) can balance well enough to stand on its own. But ultimately, Hi-Nu is meant to be on the display stand with some aerial/space action pose.
One of the things that impressed me the most is the connection of the shield. It has a "Z" shaped double hinged connector, with a ball joint end on the shield. This triple joint combo gave it tremendous range of articulation to pretty much position and angle the shield however you want, while staying very firm and solid 'floating' next to the arm. Great design! Gun hand holds the rifle nice and firm, though swapping hands can take some effort as it takes a pretty hard pull to yank the hands off.
It is unfortunate that I got a flawed sample, but the sour taste faded away pretty fast once I have most of the accessories put on. It just looks and feels awesome. Weighs about 650g with the rifle, shield, and the funnels (Metal Composite Zaku I weighs about 360g). So it is not light. Once I have it displayed standing on two feet long enough, I'll try it on the stand, hopefully everything works well. The clear Fin Funnel 'flying' attachment does look a bit flimsy, not sure if it is strong enough for long term display.

I'll say Bandai gets some unfounded flak sometimes- Yes QC sucks, but every company has some QC Because Bandai sells such high volumes, more people have it, so the few isolated issues become blown out of proportion. Luckily with Bandai the after sale support is good and you can get stuff replaced through your seller usually. Bandai prob sold over 5000+ units of this Hi-nu... maybe more I don't know what the numbers are. Prob we'll hear about <50 people with some kind of flaw to the figure. That's still under way under 1% with a flaw and most of them can get a replacement part. Meanwhile Fewture EX Gokin, I've had/seen a whole bunch of Black Getter-1 with a cracked diecast torso, and also many Getter-2 with broken thighs, but everyone still touts Fewture as great. They don't even sell as many but their QC issues are a much higher percentage. I still love Fewture btw, but any mass produced figure will have a few with flaws that get past inspection. IT WILL HAPPEN when you make 1000 units of anything that is made of hundreds of pieces that passes through a hundred hands in assembly. It sucks but reality is in an assemble line there will be a few people that just don't do as good a job.
I think of the hundreds of Bandai products I own, maybe had just 2 or 3 QC that needed replacement. I own 6 Fewture EX and needed to replace 3 of them.
