Nice find!
I've never really collected Shogun Warior gokins;
but I also don't recall ever seeing this Gaiking
with a solid yellow belly... not since the first
time I'd ever seen these SW gokins back in the
late '70s.
This thread has just made me realize how Novice
I really am in this hobby:
When I browse for Japanese Robot toys at eBay,
I get wow'ed by all the specimens I see, and I become
so gullible as to try for that BIN button at a specimen
I'd like to have... most often Without verifying its authenticity.
(
unless it's an item line that I'm Really familiar with).
I realize now that I cannot just "browse" at these specimens
in their auctions and sales... I must also learn how to READ
their ads for any hints and phrasings that could make or break
the deal or the dud.
This yellow-bellied Gaiking is one example. If I were to see
its auction ad right now, after reading you guys' comments
about "swapping", I'd have a better clue what to look for
in the auction ad....... such as the word "original".
Then I would have to compare this Gaiking with the actual
original versions And their boxes, to determine if this
yellow-bellied Gaiking ad is for real or perhaps the seller
swapped it out and labeled it as "original" in order to
try to fetch more money for it from a gullible shopper
hobbyist like Me. lol
But, of course, I'd have to have YEARS of hands-on experience in this
hobby to be able to determine the authenticity of such an item.
Mr.Ginrai and J10 have a better way of researching and handling
these specimens because they've been collecting these gokins
for so long they know these gokins inside-out like the backs of their hands.
This hobby is what you make of it. If you wanna be Really serious
about this hobby, it takes time to learn how to research, judge,
and appraise these toys right back to their original manufacturer sources.
That's why it's always good to ask questions and do research for
these toys.
Kinda like studying to become a Historian or a Museum Caretaker.
