hello everyone i think more members here know koji was champion mazinger z and he is TFO's pailot in grendizer ! which seriese do you like him in it?  and what do you think about his relationship with sayaka and maria fleed? |

Mazinger Z of course! But Koji was also the star in Mazinkaiser... which is a good thing, since Go Nagai screwed him good in Grendizer.  }D |

to be quite honest he is like two different characters. in maz, he was the main dude. in grendizer, he was more like the sidekick which explains why he's so deflated in the picture, having to pilot the TFO instead of Maz   |

I don't know what was Go Nagai thinking, The heroic and inspirational Alpha-male Koji Kabuto became a joke character in Grendizer, maybe Koji was on medication for post-traumatic stress disorder caused by the Mazinger years.
Thank god he was redeemed in Mazinkaiser, it's like the Grebdizer thing never happened.

Koji wasn't supposed to be in the series at all. It's Toei (and the sponsors) who wanted him back and Grendizer to look more like a Mazinger. They probably weren't impressed by Gattaiger. At least, that's the story I've heard.

actually it was not Go Nagai that screw up Koji but more Toie to promote Grendizer by adding iconic characters from previews shows as well making it a force tie in. what a better way to add the Mazinger Z pilot himself as well the inclusion of Boss Borot.

I don't even wanna discuss Koji's role in Grendizer...
...that series was like him going on "Spring Break" before
moving on to pilot Mazinkaiser.lol
I can't see Koji any other way than the hero he is
in both the Mazinger-Z and Mazinkaiser series.

Very interesting story, I've google'd that Gattaiger and it makes perfect sense. it's like the missing link or something like that, I bet that was Go Nagai's original vision and what we ended up getting (Grendizer) was a mix of Go Nagai's vision plus some focus tested tinkering by Toei's hand. Would love to read more about that "turbulent" period. |

Until that series, I think he played him in every series and movies. Not sure about Super Robot Wars, if he was also the voice of Koji, except when it featured Shin Mazinger, or if someone else got the role before. |

And then when Nagai wanted to expand on that by placing Sayaka in the Marine Spazer, the co-writer (can't remember his name) was like "nope" because he wanted his own character (Maria) in the series instead. I bet if Koji hadn't been in Grendizer, it probably would have never wound up becoming part of the "Mazinger" canon. Man, I watched Grendizer last year and if I'd taken a drink every time I found myself thinking how much quicker the monster of the week could be dealt with if Koji had just climbed into the frikkin' Mazinger, I'd probably be an alcoholic now. |
