"If you balk at dropping $40 on a Transformers toy for your kid this Christmas, then you’ll be happy to know that the world’s most expensive toy robot wasn’t made for retail. In order to bring more exposure to one of their flagship toy lines, Japanese toymakers Bandai teamed up with well-known jewelers Ginza Tanaka. The result, valued at around $250,000 USD, is Gundam Fix Platinum. Representing two years of work on the part of its creators, this expensive toy is, as its name suggests, made almost entirely of platinum. Fourteen hundred grams of pure platinum were used in the 89 parts that make up this figure. Why is it only almost entirely made of platinum? A .15 carat diamond was used in the camera eye on the figure’s head. The figure was unveiled at Baselworld 2007 in Basel, Switzerland, the world’s largest international watch and jewelry show." most-expensive.com/toy-robotgeekologie.com/2007/05/gundam-fixed-platinum-is-most.php

I think "valuable" would be a more appropriate term in this case.
"Expensive" would imply something that IS for sale.

Link says it's valued at $41,468... big difference in the two prices. But link was a 2007 article..

Platinum is hard to get and very expensive - it's part of what is in catalytic Convertors for cars and one of the top metals for jewelry.
At today's value for 100% pure platinum, it would be $65,095.73 - not including the diamond value or any other markup. The diamond can't be priced unless you know more about the cut/color/clarity etc. size/weight is not enough.

One of the articles said that it would be worth $41,468 if you melted it down. So, that would be just the material cost. The $250,000 value I assume would factor in the construction/molding of the figure, as well as the rarity and other factors.

I wonder, if someone was willing to burn a quarter million dollars on this, would it actually be possible to buy it or is it just for Bandai to show off at conventions?

So what will the mark up price be on eBay haha? When does the pre-order start? And is Miracle Production building it? If MP is building it have they worked out all the bugs, or are they all ready planning a second version at a cheaper price?

I think the most expensive toy robot is Kuratas. At 1 million dollars he may not be made of platinum but you can pilot him and he's for sale
