So my transformers collection is nearing completion (Mainly G1 themed updated designs and Japanese bots) and I'm looking on expanding to something else (Not counting All of the chogokin stuff I'm dropping money on now ). Ever since G1 Jetfire I've wanted a macross toy but there are so many out there, what would be a good first purchase / iconic unit to buy? I'm a big fan of the different types of armor, the armored messiah ozma looks pretty cool, but there are also the really old school macross bots that have armor too, a decent size would be good (Since they are freaking fighter jet giant robot things). Any recommendations on where I should begin/ what piece I should be going after? *Not looking for a model kit because even though I am not alien to model building I want a nice sturdy figure.

There are loads of nice looking modern valks (esp the VF-25 series) out there, but if you are looking for iconic ones, to me, nothing beats the good old VF-1 series. The ones that started it all. When i started collecting macross stuff, i made sure the first valks i bought are the takatoku VF-1S and the yamato 1/48 scale VF-1S, the rest simply fall into place for me.

i would suggest start with the old school VF series....a Yamato 1S or 1J will be a good start....since both planes were piloted by Hikaru......and its very sturdy and anime accurate in design....but if you would want to par with the G1 TF series... the chunky monkey Bandais will be nice to look at side by side.....since the design and build are relatively in the similar era......

The VF-25S renewal has been sold out for a while and the aftermarket prices for it are ridiculous at this time. Same goes for the Armor Parts for it. Bandai will probably release a reissue for it but it has yet to be announced. If I could only get one valk out of the the entire Macross universe it would be the VF-1S Roy. Although there were multiple Valks in the anime, this one stood out to be the best for me. Arcadia (formerly Yamato) is rereleasing it this month. www.hlj.com/product/ACA82018/Sci

i would say ditto on the 1/55 bandai. That thing could smash into those yamato valks and survive intact compared to yamato more accurate stylings.

The 1/55 Bandai/Takatoku Valks are great as a toy and also for durability but these have long been out of print. The V.2 Yamato/Arcadia valks are the current king of the VF-1 valks.

Bandai 1/55s are just so awesome and nostalgic. The strike armored Skull Leader is the best I think.
