Visiting fellow Jumbo members

I have been fortunate to meet up with a couple members when I have been traveling for my company's dealer training.

In December, I was able to sneak over to Houston, TX and meet up with Leo (luclin999) in early December.  Had a great 3 to 4 hour visit with him at his home.  Got to see a few jumbos that I hadn't collected yet and see some of his business DungeonStone.  Leo has done a lot of personal research on materials and playing with paints to adhere to PE plastic.  A great guy to talk about jumbos, things he has tried, and some future items to look more into and try.  For buffing, I went out and got some of the "pink" scotch-brite pads when he showed me how they do a nice job to buff out light scratches or abrasions.  Also did a jumbo trade for one that I didn't have yet.  Am looking forward to see what Leo has going on for this year within the jumbo world.

Last night, was able to meet up with Joe (truecrud) in Richland, WA.  Spent a couple hours BS'ing at the Red Robin restaurant.  Another great fellow RJ member to chit chat on collecting, discussing the different ones, and just general things with collecting them.  Overall, a great visit and surprised him with a 2' tall parting present.

Meeting with a couple RJers has been very cool to discuss a hobby that we have a common passion for collecting them.  Would love to meet up with more of the guys, but my travel paths just don't get close enough to sneak over to most of you.  I am a little envious with the NorthEast guys for having a get together.  Me, being in Nebraska, would be really hard to commit to such a personal trip to join in on the fun weekend.

I have a decent number of the jumbo guys' locations from my reproduction sales, and wished my travels would come closer to more of you.

Well sir, as we've discussed on many occasions, you are more than welcome here in PA. any time you'd like! Maybe a Pa. BBQ on one of the weekends that SteelCity Con. or Sci Fi Valley Con. is going on. I'm close to both.

I had a great time talking with you. It was so much fun talking to someone that shared some excitement about something that I have so much fun with. I too wish I could meet up with other members to talk jumbos. My wife just gives me a pained and long suffering look when I try to talk to her about them. (to be fair it's the same look I give her when she talks about actors and extended family drama) A west coast jumbo meet up would be awesome or even a more centralized meeting. Oh well something to think about for the future.

Up here in the upstate NY area there's just me,
Baron, and RepairtechJohn. John's further south of me,
and I haven't met him in person yet. Hopefully soon.

Baron is just a half-hour city bus ride west of me.
When I visit him we plan ahead so we can meet up
in a downtown area or at a coffee shop, then we go back
to his place for some RJ fun checking out his collection.

Visiting with fellow collectors is always an amazing adventure. I've had the privilege of meeting up with many members on many different occasions, and of seeing some of the most impressive collections. But whether someone has a top notch collection or is just a beginning collector, the chance to chat face to face and talk with someone who actually appreciates the hobby as much as you do is priceless.

Crap. Yeah Kingboy we need to schedule this. Sorry since holidays been working crazy hours. Try for next weekend. My best friend and I started collecting about same time since high school. Now 23 years later our collections are rather respectable. Besides him I've never actually had any face time with anyone else truly into our hobby. All of my other friends and co-workers love to visit my house and marvel at my man-cave of toys weapons and video games. Although It's fun to see their reactions and answer their questions and hear them say "wow I had that when I was a kid, wait. It's worth HOW MUCH NOW!?!" I feel like there's nothing like talking with someone who is actually into it also. Very excited for this. After I finally visit you I insist you make your way down to Miami and check my man-cave out.

I have a friend in the west coast who never goes online to show off his collection who is more of a Chogokin collector but has some of the Machinders from his childhood. That's how I got to see his Gordian. He also has a disassembled Godsigma because one or two of the big screws are broken. I don't think there's anything he can do to replace those unfortunately. That Gordian is awesome!

I find it difficult to exist "alone in the world" as a
collector in this hobby and not have a social place where
I can meet other fellow collectors in this hobby as friends
I can relate with in this experience.

My friends at home and at work like my collection, and sometimes
I like to discuss Japanese robot toys and anime with them.
But I never get any real feedback from them except "Wow, Cool!"
and it just stops right there.

For a while I thought I was alone in my region. I thought
I was the only one who was into collecting Japanese robot toys,
let alone enjoy the whole robot anime thing...

...then I realized some RJ members live close by and I felt
relieved.
To know that I can grab a public bus ride to visit Baron
is a great feeling, because I'm visiting a fellow
hobbyist and our feedback now becomes a two-way discussion
and an exchange of ideas, knowledge, and fun about our collections.

For all I know, there may be even More people in this hobby
up here in my region, besides Baron and RepairtechJohn.
It's a matter of time until more hobbyists discover Robot-Japan.
That's why I try to wear my RJ tshirt as often as possible
wherever I go, to get our forum noticed.

Yep, it's really cool to be able to meet with other collector. It's really a side of the hobby that I like. I've been very fortunate to be able to visit a lot of other collector in the past and I really wish to be able to meet a lot more. Lots of people have great stories to tell and know so many and different things, it's so interesting.
