Hi all, I have the tetsujin 28 and I'm looking to get rid of it as it's been in the loft for over 20 years, my main question is I acquired this before they hit the shops as my dad's friend was a toy salesman, where he took it to shops to see if they wanted to stock it for sale, would this still be a completely finished version or would this be like a prototype? Just asking to see if it would affect the value.

There are many different versions of this toy. Please post a photo of the toy and box and we can better help you. Thanks.

You should also post your location (US, UK, Asia, etc.). I just bought a tetsujin myself, looking forward to your pics.

To be honest it's just been stored away ever since I had it apart from the sticker I put on the front as a kid , but from moving house to house over the years the box is getting knocked about, do you have any idea what it's worth and would it be different in anyway to the ones that were available to buy?

Unfortunately, I'm a jumbo guy. Ginrai and KingboyD will be able to answer those questions for you. Me, I can appreciate a beautiful bot, plastic or die cast.

Hi again,
You have a Godaikin version Tetsujin 28. I recently purchased an unused one of these for my collection. It is a very great toy with a large presence, and the armor plates are actually made of pressed steel.
Your toy looks to be in good shape overall and you have the rocket pack and all the armor and both hatchets. There is some color change to areas of your toy that are common with age.
The robot also appears to have its pointed nose which is commonly missing.
Your box lid, overlay and box bottom are very rough, and it appears to be missing the black plastic carry handle that would attach through the two small slits on the right side of the box bottom. Foam tray looks good overall, please let us know if it has any damage like scrapes or poke marks and let us know if the cellophane on the overlay is missing or torn.
You appear to be missing the instruction booklet which is tough to find, one red missile (I see 7 and you should have 8) and one of your roboboys is missing a leg. You do have the correct number of maintenance robots (2) and roboboys (2). Please let us know if you have the booklet, missile, or leg.
The only other thing you appear to be missing is the bubble and cardboard insert that held the missiles/roboboys/maintenance bots, but many people that opened the toys did not keep those around.
I'm sure you remember the fists are spring loaded. The plastic can get fragile over time so be careful not to fire them accidentally - if they hit a hard surface they may crack or chip.
You must also be careful if you take the toy out - sometimes this toy fits very tightly in its tray and had to be wiggled a bit to come out clean. If you take it out, you should note if there are any paint scratches where the rocket pack magnet attaches on the back. If it is not scratched, I recommend you don't attach it, or that you cut a 1 inch by 1 inch piece of Kleenex and place that on the magnet before attaching it to prevent scratching.
The known weak points on this toy are the metal panel flips (the plastic around them can break) and some people have had one or both legs break off where they attach to the body (this area is plastic instead of diecast) but I haven't heard of that happening in a while.
Please update us when you have a moment and let us know if you have any other questions.

Nothing stands out to me that indicates that this is a rare prototype that is different than the standard T28s you see on ebay. Its good to know it was not in circulation, but the condition issues would make a buyer question that. As noted above, there are problems that will affect value, but overall, it is something I personally would love to be able to add to my collection!

Thanks for the replys, I should have the leg for roboboy and the missile but not the instructions, I think the discolouration is just in the pictures as it's only been out the box a couple of times when I first had it and it hasn't seen daylight for over 20 years, I'll probably be putting it on ebay this week, any ideas on what i should roughly start the auction at?

The discoloration is not from being out of the box or in it. The plastic color they used is notorious for darkening with age. Basically any of the plastic that looks black or very dark navy used to look lighter blue like the painted steel armor. The godaikins do not usually discolor as much as the Japanese ones, those get really dark.
The instructions are a small color booklet (like a storybook) that's slightly larger than a baseball card. It has the same picture on the front as the box lid does. The back of the booklet is usually white with 8-10 small pictures (a checklist) of the other robots in the line.
