Very nice build. I'm pretty surprised that the gold trim actually came with decals as you mention. I think you did the right thing by painting them.

Great idea painting the gold trim. I've never been a fan of stickers on model kits unless I seal the stickers with acrylic.
Your model kit Arcadia rocks! Which model kit line did it come from, Bandai? I see them kits (and the Yamatos, too) all over eBay and I hesitate to pick one up.
I'm not sure which Arcadia version is that ship, but it is the ship featured in the 2013 CG animated movie. I like the blue streamlined Arcadia from the TV anime. There were a few Arcadias, depending on their anime source in that timeline. But I like the blue Arcadia and this one.
Great job!

Thanks guys!
The kit is produced by Hasegawa. 1:1500 and is the 3rd ship variant attack enhanced type(that is what it says on the assembly instructions).

I've been wanting to get that kit but it's all out of stock here. Yep paint is a lot better than stickers but I suck at painting. Looking at those pics makes me want this ship even more but the scale is off with my 1/500 Yamato and I wanted both of them displayed together in scale. This is my favorite version of Harlock's ship and I find this design much more attractive than the Yamato.

I like both ships (the Yamato, and the Arcadias). Now I wanna browse eBay and find some of the old Bandai ship kits and put them on my watch list. lol

Nice to see them both side by side but the Arcadia is a bigger ship than the Yamato. I've decided to buy a glass case for my Yamato, my brother had one made for his Generations Metroplex for $25.

As I expected, the Arcadia being bigger than the Yamato.
If I had model kits of those two ships I wouldn't mind if both models were about the same size dimensions, as a compliment to one another.
I wouldn't waste any time painting them either, I'd like to spend all day putting the parts together and painting them as best as I can for the pleasure of building good looking realistic model renditions of those ships. That way I can exercise my eyes (Attention to Detail), hands (Relaxed crafting), and mind (Visualization).
The Celts were always drawing Celtic circles and ribbons, as a form of mental and visual therapy. I like to apply that principle when I build/paint model kits.
