Hi guys!
This one started back awhile ago while I was at a thrift shop, while looking around a spotted a Macross model kit of the BanDai 1:100 VF-1S Super Valkyerie. I have built a few of these kits and always kept it to the Macrosss series so this time decided to go Transformers with the paint. It was decided I would do a G1 Style Jetfire!
It was trouble right from the get go. I went ahead and did what I usually do with the paint, but this time went with a gloss white as a base as I thought the other colors would just cover it up. The red just kept getting too thick and I had to keep thinning, and it did not go on as smooth as I had hoped. Next the plastic this kit was made from was REALLY brittle. so tried to be careful with it but ended up breaking the part that the leg would peg into in jet mode. I tried to replace the peg with a small screw, but then the mount it was in crumbled. As a last resort I decided to go with magnets. So drilled 2 holes in the body of the jet and 2 holes in the top of the legs and placed 4 magnets there. then decided to give the arms some articulation and placed more magnets in the elbows and wrists. Then cut the pegs off the hands and gently drilled a small hole in each hand and placed a small screw in each and attatched it to the magnets. Lastly when transforming it to robot mode the peg for the head was not tall enough so cut that off and drilled it out aswell and placed another small screw in that and it has enough clearance to attatch the head to the body. The last pic shows the mods on an "exploded" Jetfire.
The end result is alright but is a display peice and not to be handled in excess for fear it will just turn to dust and blow away!
