Well, I can say that the Eminium Aphrodite A and The Boss Borot(he only made 1 and it's rumored to be in a collection in Italy) are not licensed toys, nor is the Queen Inima. I love some of the bootlegs out there!! There are a few more that I would love to add to my collection!!

Very cool list of bootlegs. I have a few myself. A purple Starscream, the red/blue Peru Dangard, a most impressive Getter 1 from Mexico, and of course D17.

Ah, I forget one thing about bootleg,
Some people thinks that robots are hideous and less prestigious, maybe certainly. But I think the children who played with these robots in countries less fortunate than us (in the seventies or early '80...) These toys were doubtless very important for them and made them dreaming. It was first for the children! That's why I think that it is necessary to have certain respect for these toys. For a child, a big robot was a beautiful present.
I certainly don't use the good English words, but you understand the idea!!!!

I certainly don't use the good English words, but you understand the idea!!!! Wonderfully said Sabbath!! Honestly, what turns some people against them is the thickness and bright colors of the material (mostly). But some are very well made and heavy! And it's some of the colors that I think is so cool!! I know I would love to snag an "evil grin" Gaiking, or a Nacoral Dragun! And the Nacoral Great Mazinga that I have (although the missing wheels are impossible to find) looks great next to my popy and U5 Mazinger Z's! Some of the coolest looking jumbos are bootlegs made by smaller companies to look like original popy versions.... How long before the U5's are considered bootlegs? Or the Shogun Warriors Golion?

Well, thanks! We see them first with our adult eyes, of course a JM Popy is a sort of Grail, perfect design, colors, box, copyrights...but when I was Young, the Mattel Goldorak in France was really a must! It was my Grail!!!! And this Goldorak is still my favorite! How I can forget him? During the 2000, I found a very great version of Grendizer Popy (no box) but how I can forget all the good hours in 1978 with MY Goldorak?? and the Mattel Raydeen. In France in 1978, it was really the top of the top!! And high prices!! With these toys I was the king in my school!! Of course it was not the Popy, but how many years after I see them for the very first time??? In 1978 Popy was not in my dreams!!! After!!! I can imagine in Peru during the seventies/ early eigthies a child who find a JM bootleg for Christmas (or something like this) it was probably a great chance! And in his eyes, the best toy in the world!! The Nacoral Gaiking, ah, the head is special, but it was in a shop in Belgium, I see it complete with his box, two firing fists, I said what a strange version (it was probably in 1999), but I was exciting to find this JM, so I take it! Until this time, I really like this toy. Same for my 3rd Great Mazinger from Nacoral, it was 3 years ago in a french city Lille, for a low price: 35 euros!!!! one missing Wheel, but for this price I don't miss it!!!! Another big chance, maybe now 4 years ago, by EBay way, the Mazinga (from Morel) with sword, all balls, circles, stickers and the perfect box for 60 euros!! No one was interesting by this one!! I had this one in stock first without box and material, and when the second was at home, what a surprise, the legs are absolutely not the same!! So Now, I have two diff versions of this JM. OK, this is a poor design, but I can imagine the children playing with it with the balls in his head, and the circles, probably a funny toy for a Young child. And this Mazinga is strong! Yes, U5's and Shogun Warriors Golion, really officials? !!!! Ah!!! What a big question!!

Growing up here in the US, Mattel's were the only ones we had access to. Mainly Gaiking, Mazinga, Dragun, Godzilla, and Raideen. I remember when they first came out and my cousins got 3 for Christmas... I wanted one so badly but my family couldn't afford them. So I played with their's when they would let me. I didn't get my own until a few years later when I found a Gaiking and a Dragun at a local flea market. I didn't even know that any of the popy's, Mattel Daimos or Goldorak even existed until a few years ago when I was scanning ebay (and going through a second childhood) and spotted my first Combattler! I was stunned to actually see my favorite comic book character turned in to one of my all time favorite toys!! From that moment, my bank account has not been the same!!

I know the big chance to have in 1978 Goldorak and Raydeen JM for Christmas, and for me ONLY!!!! Grendizer was absolutely THE MUST in the french TV! (I still have them in perfect condition!!) My father and mother can't imagine in '78 it will be a collection for a long time!!! Still now they take a look at each new JM !! And my mother said sometime 'Oh,this JM make me some nightmares with his head!!' And I also have in bonus two great toys in X-mas 78: the Grendizer and a Golgoth plastic robots from Atlantic. and 2 boxes the Goldorak and Vega (the villain name here)22 characters in each box, with great design. It was a big chance! super-shogun.blogspot.fr/2011/02/goldorak-atlantic.html
Simply the best Christmas of my child life!!

The Golgoth , if I'm not wrong is a villain design from Mazinger Z. I have the complete DVD of Mazinger Z, but I still don't see all of them!
Yes, the Atlantic Vega and Actarus sets are really perfect, It exist a sort of small base for put them, with the robots, but sadly I never see it on sale!! It's not a big piece, but for the collection.
OK, that's cool some people speaks about bootlegs here, I understand the Popy are the Ferrari of the JM, but believe me, If I can buy all of the JM, I do it!!!!! I need all of them!! But I'm not Qatar bank!! And now in 2014, I think it's too late for find JM with a correct price! Really really difficult! 92 JM in stock, and now I also collect the 31 inch (Spiderman, Man of Steel, Darth Vador...) and I also a LP and CD maniac, so it cost a lot!!!

I've been trying to keep up with a lot of the newer ones that interests me as well as fill my colection with as many older ones as I can afford. Thank you for sharing so much info about bootlegs and customs and opened my world for these jumbos. I remembered when I was a kid here in Singapore, the constructicon transformers box set and the autobots dinobots set of 5 and mask toys are a must have when I was a child best doe
