my own custom ex-TF JETFIRE. the first 1/55 VF-1, and the very first transforming VF-1 toy i ever laid hands on. i traded my entire GI-JOE collection for it back around 2000 or so. GOD if i wasn't ecstatic to finally have one, too;

Nice! I only have one 1/55. A 2001 reissue Super VF-1S. Still one of my favorite toys.

and here it be, my very first "proper" 1/55 VF-1. to the contrary of some respected opinions out there, this 2001 reissue can indeed achieve GERWALK without shoulders canted at extreme outboard angles, just the same as the original 80's releases can; it is a very good quality reissue, especially for a 21st century product. it feels a little loose in some ways, when directly compared to my 1984 TF JETFIRE version, but that is largely corrected by dogging down the screws throughout. with all the factory printed placarding, and it's crystal clear legibility, i'd say this reissue, while perhaps not QUITE as high a quality in it's materials overall, is vastly superior to any previous 1/55 edition, for pretty much any interested party besides the hardcore vintage collector. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Good piece to pick up! I love the light gray putty coloring of the VF-1J, contrasted to the bright white of most other versions.
You mention the quality, and I agree! I've had almost all versions to compare, and the 2001 Bandai re-issues are actually better, crisper quality than many of the original Takatokus. AND they have those awesome tampo printed details where the old ones had more sticker sheets to make the same look.
Don't get me wrong, I love love having the TT's, and first series Bandai Valk variants, but the 2001 issues are very good. I hate that the asking prices are unrealistically high for very available toys, almost as high as the current decreased price of the originals.
And, YES, these are the proper Valkyrie toy, LOL

interesting thing is IRL, to my naked eye, in bright lighting, this reissue's plastic tone seems more a Slate Gray than anything else, a light gray with a slight blush hue, a definite Slate to my eye. just thought that an interesting observation to mention...

All so beautiful and iconic! Someone please post some pictures of their Takatoku GBP armor with the VF-1J in it!
