With several robot toys being reissued such as Takara's Tranformers and even Bandai's Origin of Valkyrie, I wonder why Bandai has not reissued some of the classic chogokin counterparts? Is it a question of lost molds? I'd really like to see those classic Popy chogokins in classic form. Hell, even do a Godaikin line reissue. For every SOC or SRC they've given us, it would be really great to have the vintage version reissued and revisited.

I just can't foresee it. I think that the vast majority of newer collectors gravitate toward modern releases with the more anime-accurate designs. Plus part of collecting the vintage toys is because of their scarcity and historical relevance. A reissue might not even appeal to many of the collectors of the vintage designs. Not sure on that.
They did reissue some of the standard-sized toys in mini form - The Chogokin line. I don't know how successful that line was. But since they ended after 10 (well, a few more to be precise), I would suspect that it was not as profitable as they hoped. Truly a shame as that line was fantastic - quality products that truly captured the spirits of the originals. A few other vintage toys were reissued as festival exclusives (such as the standard-sized black Raideen, Godsigma, and Combattler; the regular and gold colored Inazuman car; and the regular and gold colored Robocon). But these again were not intended as mass releases.

The Gold Lightan set of 5 Chogokin reissued flopped big time. Question is, why would vintage collectors want to buy these reissue? A lot of newer collectors really don't care for vintage toys. The demographics for these reissues would be for old timers for nostalgia reason. So probably not your typical toy collectors and more of the casual collector. As for comparing it to Transformers, it really is no comparison because the fan base for Transformers collecting has grown significantly. So many forum and websites dedicated to just Transformers versus the few that are for Japanese SR.

which sometimes makes me wonder, would vintage toys collection last beyond our generation? younger collectors will tend to go for modern SOCs and the likes, cant really see vintage toys collecting getting anymore popular.

^ That's what I keep hoping, that prices will eventually drop as every collector would eventually have the pieces that they want, and all the new items showing up on ebay would have less and less competition. But I have yet to see this occur. I am getting older and older, and my window is closing, but I will still keep hoping that this will come to pass while I still have the hunger for this hobby.

I stopped trawling ebay and Yahoo Japan for a while, seems like not much vintage toys in Ebay nowadays. I agree would be cool for Bandai to reissue the older figures, I think they did that with the Etarnal (or Eternal) Hero series in the late 80s??

I couldn't have said it any better myself. Competition is fierce and it doesn't seem like that's going to be changing. One can only hope to win the lotto. hehehe

I think we are in a lull that one would expect based on demographics. No large estate collections are up for sale and all of our collectors are alive. I think we can see an increase in interest when there are more toys for sale & the guys just before us let their collections go. No good stuff for sale = eroding interest for the short term.
For now, we have black hole vintage collecting. Nothin' is coming to the surface.
I also think the internet makes the select few hold more and out compete others.... $$$

Either that or people pushed the prices so high that no one can afford to buy. So people stop putting them on, and the ones that do, expect the high retail price for their vintage stuff. And now look at the Soul of Chogokin stuff. Every week on eBay the Japan sellers don't sell, they raise prices. Only 5 months ago a Daimos was like $198. Now they are near $250-$300 and from the same sellers. Its like the Daltanious that was released. It went from $250 to $500 in less than a year. The only thing that brought the prices back down is that it is being re-released this coming month, starting around $220 or so. But I also agree that current collectors are just holding on to them watching to see or force the prices up. If I had a bunch to sell, now is the time. The market isn't flooded and people/collectors like us are hungry for good choices and good prices.

Not too loud I still need a combattra and Godmarz for my collection. The ones on the bay are super pricey for the condition. I have noticed the huge increase personally when I sold my pop golions fetching between 1200 and 2500.00 the huge difference was in box the box condition but other than that the accessories were still sealed and accounted for and everything was like new.
