Just finished a set of shackles to complete the kit. Those who don't want to purchase styrene strips in several sizes to make their own shackles, can buy this set instead. Let's face it, buying 3 or 4 sets of styrene strips will cost you more on the long run than a custom set of shackles fitted for this figure. No measuring or cutting necessary, just some glue and you are done. Comes with: 2 lower leg 2 tights 2 bicepcs 6 lower arm www.shapeways.com/model/2213999/shackles-set-for-bandai-s-gx-07-mazinger.html?modelId=2213999&materialId=7

I wish I had the patience to learn 3D printing. Really, I have little or no problems making 3D models on screen; but translating it into a file format specified to become printed as a live hand-held object is the part that confuses me.
I remember when this 3D print trend started, how we all dreamed about making our own toys with this new technology. Here we are making toys with this new technology; but it's not as easy as putting whipped cream on a cuke.
To all you folks who are already working with this technology, my hats off to you all!
Ninjahandz, you've expanded existing toys and kits to a whole new next level. Keep up the good work, and post pics!
I'm trying to keep my Maz collection to strictly original base character toy figure (as in, Mazinger-Z only)... but with all the other Mazingers and Grendizer in the cannon, Ashura Mazinger is very much a part of the Maz robot's mech-genealogy as it is the bridge that closes the gap between Mazinger-Z and Mazinkaiser.
With that in mind, I will probably purchase the Ashura Mazinger kit so that I can add an Ashura Maz into my Mazinger collection lineup.

I'll check out the GX-07, of course it's the perfect figure for this mod-grade. (modification + upgrade. get it! lol) I was thinking of using another Mechanic Collection Mazinger model, since the Mazinkaiser OVA version Mazingers are in that model kit line. I don't wanna spend too much time knit-picking for "anime accuracy", all I would want is the Ash-Maz character itself as a canon timeline reference. zozo-mag

If you use the regular Mazinger Z head for the Ashura Mazinger custom, it is gonna look like crap. I have yet to see any (custom AM) made with a regular Mazinger Z head that looks okay. And that's not even counting the body style! Just find a decently priced SOC GX-07 and use it. Otherwise, you will just be ruining a Mazinger Z figure. }D

Yeah, the kit is meant to fit the GX-07 like a glove. Using any other figure would probably give you subpar results. The pilders however are probably interchangeable with similar sized figures. The breast plates could be modified to fit other figues as well. I really can't recommend buying this kit if you don't intend to use it on a GX-07. The closest would be the Mazinger/Great Mazinger double Mazinger Mechanic collection kit that comes with both Mazingers. Looks to me the size and body would be optimal for a custom right after the GX-07. Besides the GX-07 pop up now and then at under $100 on ebay. I saw one 3 weeks ago sold at $70 simply because it was missing the pilders. Which was not a problem for this project! If this kit works out, I will probably move to my next, more ambitious project, a SRC Boss Borot, OVA accurate with opening chest and pilder docking bay. I already solved most of the design problems, including the arms which I want to be anime accurate but also very articulated. The part stopping me from starting this project is the cape. I just can't model "organic" stuff like that yet. I even have the reference figure in hand This body www.flickr.com/photos/ramas2k/6846713581/with these arms and legs and the OVA head with the fuzzy eyebrows

Oh I didnt realize he erased his post anyhow, guess he changed his mind?

We need more custom Boss Borots! And did you see how he's making that custom Velgas-V5? A combination Getter1 limbs with a Shin Maz body, head, and legs! I presume those would be cast copies from SOC parts! zozo-mag

And that way I can also have an MC Great Mazinger to go with my MC Maz. But, yes, if your kit is primarily intended for the GX-07, then I'll get a GX-07. Wouldn't hurt me to get two GX-07s. After all, I may as well form a "canon" timeline display for the Mazinger anime shows with these figures; even if it means having so many Mazingers on my shelf. lol zozo-mag

Seems the kit hit a snag during production. It went from finished to back to production. I'm guessing they tried using regular plastic instead of "evil" plastic and the results were awful. They haven't call me so I guess it was an internal issue and the kit is still printable. Otherwise they would have mailed me by now and issued a refund. I don't expect more problems but it did delay the release date a bit
