Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has had this happen...I was cleaning my Jumbo Gaiking...I removed the stickers with hot water and liquid detergent and cleaned it. I used a little acetone on a rag to white the excess off. Then I tried to polish it with Novis but later found a white film form on the top. Has anyone had to deal with this? Also, there seems to be dark streaks embedded into the plastic that standard cleaning isn't removing.
Any help would be appreciated.

The acetone may have been too harsh on the Polyethylene. Try to rinse with soap and warm water.
If you need to remove sticker residue without heat, use goo gone (bottled liquid only, not the spray gel kind). Don't use other solvent based products like goof off etc. as they are too harsh and will eat or discolor the plastic (or both).

I noticed with Novis it's like a car wax.... Maybe try buffing a bit more.

Also, what number Novus did you use, 1,2, or 3? Three is more abrasive than (but not much) the other ones, usually I use #2 for regular polishing.

I noticed that I need to do this several times but it works. How do you get rid of the deeper scratches? Wet sandpaper? 220 to 2000? Also, I noticed that I have some deeply embedded marker stains that the magic eraser is not getting out. Any suggestions?

Depends on how deep the scratches are. Usually you start with low grit and then work up to high grit (fine) but you should ask Tom or some of the other guys that have sanded them in the past. I have not sanded polyethylene before.
For the marker, try wiping thoroughly with a cloth soaked with rubbing alcohol (wear thin gloves so your skin does not get dried out).

So tough to sand!! Really hard to get the scratches out. I have actually used a scotch- brite pad and buffed the crap out of it. Deep scratches are the worst. The last time I tried to sand one down, I ended up replacing it because I just didn't have the patience for it. Maybe Derik, Luclin, or Bourno has some trick for it.

I tried to use the warm water and light wash then the magic eraser but the white is still coming back. Any suggestions? Soooo frustrating!

I would try to let it soak in lukewarm to warm (not hot enough to alter the shape of the PE), soapy water and then rinse again, then try again with novus #2. If it's a hazy white that clouds or keeps reappearing, especially where you used the acetone, then I am probably correct in my original thinking that it would be acetone damage. You may have to paint this one or continue to sand with fine/ultra fine grit paper, or buff and polish more. The haze may not go away.

So, I tried on the other leg without acetone and still get the white haze. I have used wet sand paper then novis. I am sure that I am missing a step here and keep getting this haze. Thanks again for all the input

No problem. You definitely have to post some pictures though because at this point I'm still concerned as to why you are getting the white haze. I don't think you are missing anything.
