So have we seen bootleg diaclones for sale yet?
I get a bit suspicious seeing so many Red Countachs....

I don't know. I wouldn't put it past them that they didn't think about it but I don't think they could match the quality of the vintage boxes. Even the G1 KO boxes look too new, you know?
As an aside though, the red sunstreaker isn't the most valuable piece and is probably the most common, so I think it would be easier to pass off.

Yes, it was super hard to find 10 years ago, then someone must have found a case of them.
New or Old case.....I'm not sure....

I've got the red stingray Tracks and its one of my favorite transformers. To think of someone making a bootleg is upsetting. Although I have seen bootleg diaclone optimus prime and ultra magnus Yes, there were vintage KOs that came out back in the 80s that can be pretty clearly identified as bootleg diaclones and you can add tank jet (blitzwing) and a couple others to the battle convoy (prime) and powered convoy (Magnus) that you have seen. I think here, Ed is specifically speaking of straight out KO/unlicensed reissues of Diaclone like we have been seeing the last few years with G1. G1 KO came into being due to bootleggers seeing an option to make a lot of money (G1 prices were skyrocketing at the time) and in addition AFA pieces were in the stratosphere price wise, so a lot of unscrupulous sellers started selling these KOs in knock off AFA cases with fake serial numbers. It got really bad. Even when shopping at our local vintage collectible stores we'd have people who got swindled or who were just lying try to come in and sell KO G1. They were refused immediately. Some people weren't too mad because the KO are not that expensive in general but some people flipped out. The point here is that diaclones are so in demand now and some of the hardest pieces are so rare or tied up in collections that they are worth insane money. There are still a lot of common pieces that are cheap, but not desirable either - so they are regularly available in both European and Asian markets. I think the KO makers are actually smart in the fact that diaclones haven't been done yet because in my opinion, they'd be too suspect trying to pass off a $4-8k toy that's already extremely rare. Not worth the risk.

3-D printers really open a whole new black market. Heck I've thought about getting one just to replicate parts for my Godaikins, missiles and weapons. Imagine printing off a complete Machineman, duplicating the weapons, foam, and box, then putting them on auction? You'd make a killing. So I wouldn't doubt Daiclones are just around the corner for KOs.

Right now the KO guys are using reverse engineering or re-molding tooling to make it happen and also to pump them out so quickly and in such high numbers. You wouldn't be able to compete on that scale even with a commercial/industrial grade 3d printer.

Ya I guess for now but as technology moves fasger, these 3D printers at some point could pump out robot parts as fast as Cheezits. ☺

I would assume at this point if you were just making missiles and weapons they could still currently make them pretty fast. And, molding takes labor. Some of these new printers, as long as they are full, you can set them to make several hundred similar parts, hit start, go see a movie, and come back and they're done. So its coming my friends, its coming. Its not a bad thought to pump out a bunch of Voltes V/combattra hoses or missiles, or a few extra swords for the different super chogokin. The market is there.

My thinking was simple-- G1 Autobots have been bootlegged and they were incredible copies. -Just waiting for the other shoe to drop.
I hope not though.....

Well they did the MicroChange/Japanese G1 KO of Browning (both blue and red leg versions and both MicroChange and Transformers sticker sets) and I have both...they are amazing.
I think to go for a full fledged diaclone KO (any character) though will be too difficult/too costly, even for the KO makers.

I know this is an old thread but has anyone purchased the repro boxes, stickers or paperwork of original Diaclone cars? How is the quality? Is it easy to tell it's a fake? I ask cause a seller is selling a diaclone car MIB and want to make sure nothing is repro. Thanks.

Just read thru this thread, missed it before.
The area I think the bootregging is concentrated on, is the modern stuff. All of the Masterpiece line of modern TFs and now the reboot Diaclone line, is being shamelessly repro'd. Big sales are happening with it too, you can see easily from the quantity of reviews, and posts of people's collections, and when you go to 80s focused toy shows, they're everywhere, and doing a good job making them, sometimes improving a goofy part on the original.
Once that first modern reboot DiaBattles was shown to be a success, and the love for it grew over a year or so, as word got around, and now the rest of the line is proceeding, the bootreg attention was watching and waiting!

How do you tell a Reboot Diaclone bootleg from a genuine one? Can you link to a bootleg auction or something?

There are some guides floating around somewhere. Right now, you really just have to buy from known retailers, and some stuff is getting re-released or already has been re-released so you can avoid secondary market purchases (and avoid the counterfeits) for some stuff that's still in stock.
A lot of the counterfeits were coming out of China, if I remember correctly.
What products are you looking for?
