Hey guys....I have several older boxes for my jumbos. All are really in need of protection, somehow. Do any of you have methodsof preserving them you'd be willing to share? Could they be wrapped in mylar? Not sure if it's safe to break them down somehow so they are flat for storage, w/o compromising the integrity of the packaging and reducing their value. Any thoughts are appreciated.
Cheers!

Don't break them down.
You can definitely wrap in Mylar or a similar clear plastic, but if you have access to dry, climate controlled area with no windows (like a spare bedroom or clean storage closet) then that's all you really need.
You don't want them to be too dry or too humid, and no sunlight.
I keep my high dollar and/or fragile pieces in my room, top shelf of the closet. Not worth leaving them anywhere else, for me at least.

Hi , I bought some of my jumbo pieces from 1 extreme collector, his pieces never seen sunlight in his hands, he told me if you want to preserve the colours on the box, the box cannot be exposed to light and must not be in a hot and humid condition, as such he kept all his jumbos in a warehouse in carton boxes. But this is not what I want, as I do not want to spend $$$$$ of money and stare at carton boxes, as such I just wrap them with a clear plastic, but this only prevent dust and does not help much if you want to preserve them.. so it depends on you as I chose to be able to enjoy my collection over ultimate preservation lol!

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll look for Mylar to wrap them in. I wonder if there's a PH neutral Mylar or plastic that has UV protection on the market? I' won't break them down based on the general consensus I've received. I may reinforce them somehow with some acid free board just to protect the structural integrity of the shape. Luckily I have enough space in a closet to store them. I don't intend to display them...least for not a while. My shelf simply won't acomodate them and the jumbos together. I want to hold onto them. They add to the value if I ever did have to sell them, and I hate to separate 40 year old boxes from the toys they have miraculously managed to stay with.

Try a packaging shop for rolls of cellophane.

You can also fill them with packing peanuts to help hold the shape. That's what I do with mine, any excess peanuts I get gets put IN the boxes.

I bought my cellophane rolls at Hobby Lobby, they were the cheapest there I think. I can't remember if Michael's sells it. It doesn't say anything about if it's acid free or not.
I am a fan of using thinner craft paper (not the shipping grade one) for stuffing the boxes. This is the kind of soft paper you get when you buy a glass or fragile item at TJ maxx/home goods/Marshall's. It comes in 2 or 3 shades and gets nice and bulky when balled up gently.

You can also get clear cellophane rolls at DollarTree.
