Do you mean completely open? If so that's a lot of work to clean.
I am going for something different. I don't have a lot of floor space to work with and I like my stuff to be at eye or waist level so I can actually SEE it. I am really against floor cases unless the lower half is just the stand.
I would actually try to work with smaller cases that can sit side by side. Smaller cases are easier to manage and also to move and rearrange. They go right on countertops or dressers etc that can have storage below, or they can be wall mounted or built into a wall. I don't want to have to kneel or get on the floor to look at the very bottom of a case with my awesome stuff on display. Waist height and above is where most light hits the room, whether it's your case lights or the lights in the room themselves.
I bought my first case very recently, after years of just having things stored. I was sad and wanted to see my stuff for a change. I bought an aluminum and glass 24 inch wide by 18 inch high by 12 inch deep. It comes with three staggered shelves that are fixed height.
It gives me good options for both some small figures and vehicles but I could also buy another one, take out the shelves and use it for 12-18 inch chogokin robots all standing and fill it up pretty good.
So far it is the best thing ever. I am planning on buying two to three more when I have a few extra bucks.
Only the edges are aluminum. It's fully enclosed with no gaps or seams so no dust. The open design lets plenty of light in. I could add an external LED spotlight but I will never have to light the case itself.
If you must buy LEDs for yours, spend money for high quality ones. Cheaper ones will have color match issues (even if they are the same color) and can emit light in crazy non-uniform directions. It will look weird.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Thank you for replying, Not completely open because you are right and im suffering from the dust with my current stand lol Me too I hate floor cases and I want it to be an eye level to look mighty lol, and I have some of my recent figures stored too I need your opinion in here, I have a lot of room in my room so I was thinking to make mine huge to store everything in it, it will be wood and glass with LEDs the good one not cheap one of course lol it will be 39inchs (1 meter) wide by 70inches ( 1.8 meter) high by 27.5inches (almost 70cm) deep, with three glass shelves kinda like this one ( i don't own the picture above ) its close to what i want except mine will be made of wood

I've got an ordinary black particle-wood laminated bookcase that is about 4' tall, with two shelves... I fixed the lower shelve to a height that will leave space at the bottom for my DX Maz set, but I'd rather display the DX on top of the bookcase ( my room is almost dust-free, as I'm always cleaning and dusting every weekend, and I'm always wiping my figures off). I've got a simple black coffee table that is about 2 ft tall, so the table top is below my knee ( I'm 5'11"). My plan is to sit the bookcase on top of the coffee table so it will be lifted as high as my chest. The coffee table will still have plenty of table-top space around the bookcase so that I can display smaller figures and dioramas in the foreground. Then I will add a bottom shelf beneath the coffee table as an open storage area to display some of my SOC boxes and Mechanic Collection model kit boxes like "books" in plain view. The thing I hate most about my room ( and apartment) is that the walls are made of Stucco... therefore my landlord won't allow me to put shelves up on the walls ( Stucco is difficult to repair and patch). Otherwise I would have my current display all mounted on the walls. The only thing allowed on my walls are adhesive hooks for light-weight posters; which I plan to mount for my two Super-robot posters. Overall, I'm proud to say that since I moved into my apartment over a year ago, my place still remains Smoke-free! ( I step outside to smoke. lol) Hopefully someday soon I'll be able to afford my very own apartment ( no more roommates!) where I can build modular shelves on the walls for displaying my collection. And even Then I would still smoke outside, because now I enjoy NOT having to worry about cigarette odors on my stuff. zozo-mag

I need your opinion in here, I have a lot of room in my room so I was thinking to make mine huge to store everything in it, it will be wood and glass with LEDs the good one not cheap one of course lol it will be 39inchs (1 meter) wide by 70inches ( 1.8 meter) high by 27.5inches (almost 70cm) deep, with three glass shelves kinda like this one ( i don't own the picture above ) its close to what i want except mine will be made of wood I think it's too big. I like the layout but I think you run the risk of easily overcrowding the stuff and not being able to see everything, or having too few items with too much space in between. If you have different size items, you can both stagger them front to back and offset them left to right so that will help. The numbers below are just general, you could do 5, 10, 20 wide whatever you could fit, and big means your tallest, smaller refers to the fact that each row I front of that should have figures slightly smaller than the row behind it. That way you can see figures behind and in between, maximizing spaces hike the eye sees a full area through declining scale (think like how a section of seats in a sports arena looks). So if you looked down on one shelf from above, it would look like this to start: - - - - - - - - - - back row, 10 big - - - - - - - - - next row, 9 smaller - - - - - - - - - - next row, 10 smaller I use this pattern in my small case with the 12 inch deep shelves and currently only one item is obscured from view. Case is not full yet but it works well so far. What are you trying to display? Diecast, jumbos, other toys?

Way before that I had a healthy life style I work out I eat healthy I sleep good and I still do that except the workout part because I can’t, so why that happen to me its because of passive smoking (second hand smoke) even that I rarely go out with smokers but however I got it What im trying to say is that im not trying to lecture you or advise you, you are a grown man you know what’s best for you, its just that I don’t anyone to feel that horrible pain that I felt. Sorry to spin off the topic Back to the topic that’s a great idea to mix the display it will give it a neat look I think it's too big. I like the layout but I think you run the risk of easily overcrowding the stuff and not being able to see everything, or having too few items with too much space in between. Case is not full yet but it works well so far. What are you trying to display? Diecast, jumbos, other toys? lol I know its huge I thought about it so im putting a tiny shelf in every shelfs so i can put the smaller figures behind the huge ones also the shelve will be like a step so I can have more space its just that I want to put all my things in 1 huge display I might do it soon I just don't have much time lately thats a great idea bro i was thinking the same mainly Bandai SOC . SRC , DX Mazinger Z , Fewture EX gokins , Toynami Voltrons and the threezero mazinger z when i get it, so mostly diecast figure but i will place them on the lowest shelf so all the weight go on wood not risking glass breaking , light figures will be in mid shelf and lighter figures will be on the top.

Thanks for sharing your experience about the pain in your lung. Lately I've been smoking a lot less than I used to... ...I had cut down from smoking a couple packs a day, now smoking a pack every few days. zozo-mag

Some cool ideas all around, but why not discussing in the "Gallery" section? That's where it's at. Already a bunch of old threads discussing different cabinets, dustproofing, etc, this would be great to keep in there together. robotjapan.proboards.com/board/4/toy-vault-gallery-dx

No worries, S_Gokin. This thread can be moved over there, and participants can still follow it and join the conversation. Another idea, you could start your own thread showcasing your collection and documenting the growth of your collection; and this thread can also be incorporated into your thread... like your very own interactive blog. zozo-mag

(I'm not a moderator nor admin) I don't know how to move threads. You can PM any of the moderators (Chen) and they'll move it for you.
As for sharing your collection pics, any time even now with just what you have is a good time to start... it's fun watching member's collections grow from just a few figures to a full-blown museum-style showcase.
I wish I had started documenting my collection at first when I joined (in 2006); at least I thought I did, all my images from my former webpage (Multiply.com) got deleted when Multiply sold their web domain. Now I gotta dig through my other old hard-drives, and other web image-host accounts, to re-organize all of my collection pics. My early collection pics are buried in old threads somewhere in the gallery thread.

When you are customizing/choosing your shelves, it is important to factor in lighting. while drop down lighting is the easiest way to go, it becomes impractical when your shelf is fill with toys and the lighting will never be able to illuminate the lower decks. From the picture, i can see that each deck have its own lighting which is a big plus.

True my friend more light is better to make the colors more alive but i might put LEDs spot light instead of this huge things to save space and less heat since i live in a very hot country
