Although RJ is primarily focused on Japanese robot toys; we often discuss other toy categories, especially Korean robot characters, in other threads. I figured perhaps we could create this as an other-topic category for obscure, rare, weird, and unknown robots from around the world? I don't know if RJ ever had a thread topic that discussed such robot characters and their toy lines from other countries, besides Korea... So I thought I'd start a thread for that topic here. Here's my first entry... I had just stumbled upon this while browsing through CDX... www.collectiondx.com/news_item/11214/big_robot_italian_chogokinand here at the facebook page... www.facebook.com/pages/Italian-Gokin-Line/838999556152040?sk=timeline...it also seems the creator is planning to manufacture this action figure, based on his Italian manga for his robot character... www.encirobot.com/2dl/paper_fumetti_big_robot_fumetto.aspEverything about this robot character is explained in Italian, of course. Use an online translator to translate all this info into your native language. Have fun! zozo-mag zozo-mag

I liek all of them but many people get upset at this.. Nah, the fact is that, out of 100 robots that are "born" in a country, 99 will be originals but people will just notice the ripoff of the "random famous japanese robot" first, and then point their fingers at the maker, getting upset and everything. But guys, look at the other 99 robots which are original products! Don't look only at... Guys? Are you listening... Guys? Ok, keep shouting, I'm leaving. By the way, yep, this is totally a Grendizer ripoff. Which makes it kind of cool, in a certain way, hehe. EDIT: these last 2 days I went to a big convention here in Italy, the Lucca Comics and Games. And in a stand I saw a poster of this! Decided to look for more info once I came back home, but apparently you guys preceded me

I have to admit, when I look at these other robots I see elements borrowed from the classic Japanese super-robots. Of course, when we watch any of the classic Japanese super-robot anime shows, some of those elements were inspired by other shows. Who was the first giant robot to use the ever-popular "rocket punch" weapon? It certainly was Not Mazinger-Z. I wouldn't be so quick to shout "rip-off"... on the contrary, I interpret it as a tribute to the super-robots. And, I often do get put off by blatantly obvious rip-offs... but I'm not gonna drop dead at the sight of it. lol I've heard and have read and have participated in enough of the "rip-off" discussions and sound-off's in other threads. Therefore I was hoping not to have that carry over into this thread, so that we can share and enjoy the sights without us getting worked up about Rip-off's. The purpose of this thread is also to see how Japanese anime robot shows have inspired and/or influenced fans and artists around the world to produce their own renditions, and in some cases a few unique genuine giant anime/manga robots. Enjoy! zozo-mag

GR2 might be the first to introduce the rocket punch, but Mazinger's rocket punch had more punch in it.
Anyway, when I was a kid, I remember a Taiwanese knock off chogokin toy robot named Typhoon. It had red legs, the chest of Getter 2, and a head similar to Maxinger's minus the horns and mouth guard grills.

In the English dubbed version of the Johnny Sokko series GR2 was called Torozon... ( Photos courtesy of CollectionDX) I searched Youtube for the two Johnny Sokko episodes in which GR2 appears; but it seems many of the episodes were taken down from Youtube. Looks like I'll have to dig out my DVD file and upload a clip. ----------------------------------- Taiwan has tons of KO robot toys every where. I see some often at local dollar stores. There's one that looks like a Gundam head with a mask that drops open to reveal a human face... known as Combat Robot. ...it has whirly lights on its chest as it walks. It was reviewed by Josh in the Bootleg section at CDX. A local Arab-owned dollar store still has one that's been on display for several years in their storefront window; I'm surprised no one bought it, given there are so many kids in the neighborhood. zozo-mag

@ rtjohn: That Fighting Dragon looks familiar, I thought I had seen it posted online perhaps on Facebook. I can't remember; but it does look familiar. Cool concept indeed! And Paul Kaiju's stuff looks cool as heck. I like his Domino Jack figure, looks like its a homage to Violence Jack and a hint of Devilman. Thanks for sharing! zozo-mag

Thought I might give you an update, about that Italian Gokin. From their Facebook page: first the part in Italian, which differs slightly from the part in English, so I translated it for ya: "Dear fans! Here's an update for the Big Robot Project with 3D images, showing final proportions and colour scheme... let's say, the "outer shell"... all dne under the supervision of Alberico Motta, the original author of the comic/manga! A big thanks to Alberico! Also, since the first days of December we started discussing on how to make the "inner shell", articulation, size of the model, materials to be used, etc.... any constructive comments about how you want to see this robot become will be very appreciated! Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!" Now the part in English: "Dear supporters! updates on the Big Robot Project with the final 3D and the final coloring. The outer shell is now ready, also under supervision by the original comic author Alberico Motta year 1937! Since beginning of Dec2014 the phase has moved to the design, choice of materials, height of the robot, etc.....your comments from all over the world are more than welcome to finalize further details of the Big Robot! Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!" And now some pics

Yeah, the legs are very, very similar to Grendizer's ones, almost exact copies we might say. Except for the color scheme.
But from the waist up, it resembles more something like Boss Palder, from the Blocker Corps. It's a bit more original, let's say. Specially the head and the neck.
