Not sure if anybody keeps an eye on modern vinyl toy scene, LOL, but Jeff Lam, designer of the Greasebat kaiju character and toys, has had a thread on SkullBrain about a character he's been hashing out details to have a jumbo toy made of. He's looking into having it made in original jumbo plastic style, with molded-in colors, a few stickers, vinyl head, etc!! He's one of the gang, essentially, in this robot toy scene. I know it's not vintage, but styled very much as an homage to vintage jumbos, and worth a look, I thought. I have to figure out how to get some of the images to show here on R-J. skullbrain.org/bb/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=48744

I've been talking to Jeff about it. He'll be doing a kickstarter with it and they will be limited as well! Oh, and it will have wheels!!! Price should also be reasonable from what i'm understanding. It really reminds me a little of being in the Getter family.

Cool! I know he chimes in on some robot boards, we'll have to post that info when it's up. There was another guy who similarly did a kickstarter for his own design jumbo, vintage style toy recently, and I've lost track of that one. I know the thread is here. Have to see what became of that.

i dig it. I love that people are taking on projects like this. I really like the design and concept ideas just something about it has an almost "bootleg" proportion feel. Maybe its the thickness of the arms and legs. Can't quite place it. Definitely gonna keep my eye on it and try to grab one.

Once you get the design down for terror skull 13 you should post them here and Facebook so jumbomania can share it and get more people to help with kickstarter

hello everybody. Thanks for the interest in my Jumbo project. I've been a collector of diecast robots since the mid-eighties, at one point I had the entire US Godaiken catalog, along with some bootlegs available in the US. I never owned the Shoguns as a kid because they cost too much...anyways, I've also always been a kaiju collector and have had great success with my Greasebat figures from Monster Worship and a slew of other characters from Unbox Industries. Recently I was looking into getting a 9 inch vinyl robot figure made, but what I really wanted was a Jumbo. So I approached Unbox who did some work and told me it's a possibility. Now the designs are drawn up and once I get a price quote for production I'll start the pre-order / kickstarter thing. I'm pretty excited about it. Dan from Unbox is a Jumbo fan and he has a few in his personal collection. We are going to keep it as close to the original specs as possible, wheeled feet, limited paint applications, of course the correct plastic with a vinyl head... even making the forearms the same diameter so you can switch with vintage hands. Shooting fists/missiles was too expensive though, sadly. Again, I appreciate the interest, thanks! www.flickr.com/photos/jefflamm/sets/72157647732591366/

If the arms are the same diameter as the originals, they make plenty of attachments!

-Glad to have you around Jeff! Please be sure to post some PR on the facebook page. We'd love to get that critical mass of pre-orders to help the project. RJ fans should get you some buyers and support.
Great design!

Thanks everybody. I just got a preliminary cost estimate, it's pretty high but not unattainable. I will be coming up with a number of items to sweeten the pre-orders , really If I get enough pre-orders that can pay for production at a decent / fair retail price. Total amount of figures made would be about 500, released in several ( 4 or 5) different colors of plastic. It will be sold in a full size illustrated box, just like the old ones. Thankfully that's not cost prohibitive. I'm excited to get the ball rolling!

How tall will it be? When will pre-orders open? What is the estimated release date? Do you have any plans to develop a die-cast figure?

Height will be right around two feet tall. Pre-orders will be a major part of the kickstarter process, or I may just do flat-out pre-orders, no kickstarter. Not sure yet. Release date- I am hoping by mid-summer 2015. Die-cast, I asked my producer about that and it's a bit cost prohibitive. I may do a smaller vinyl version, like 9 or 10 inches tall. I'm a big fan of vintage vinyl robots Thanks for asking

Loving the progress so far. I really like the knight-based design, I've always thought the classics danced around the idea but never really touched down hard enough. I'm looking forward to more progress, as soon as you have working models up sign me up for the order! Sam
