Hello all, I'm new to the board but I am looking for some help! I would really like to get my hands on a jumbo Voltron, I understand that they are fairly hard to come by but not nearly as bad as some of the more elusive pieces. What aresome tips or advice that you all would have for me when looking to purchase one of these beauties? Thank you In advance, I appreciate the help!

American LJN versions are pretty common on Ebay. Shouldn't be hard to get one. The Popy one's are a bit more and not as easy to come by. Patience is the key for collecting any Jumbo.

If searching on ebay. You could search by Voltron of course, or more likely Giant Commander Voltron to find some easier than searching with the generic terms of shogun warrior, jumbo machinder. With some patience, have seen some sell around the $100 range area.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. Besides the LJN version having the motorized feet, what are the differences between the two? It's looking on Google like the other version has more tubular arms, or maybe a custom. I've got a couple shogun warriors and I really think the Voltron looks smooth next to a Mazinga!

In LJN vs Popy the Popy has missile clips on thighs and launchers in mouths of hands, as well as sticker/paint differences. LJN motorized base screws off easily.

Are there any available conversion kits? I know a couple of the guys offer sticker or decal kits on here, I've gone through a few of their stuff and it's super impressive.

There are some incredibly talented artists on here, be it stickers, missiles, parts and pieces. Bourno has Popy Golion stickers and Derik of Shogun Plastics offers a missile clip with red and green missile conversion set. No one that I'm aware of though does the launchers for inside the mouths yet. I've been waiting for that kit for a while. If you do the stickers and clips, it looks very close to a popy.

All of this is awesome news, I've decided that for the near future all my hobby time and money is going to be spent on one of these bad boys. I appreciate the help, I'm still trying to get my feet wet with Jumbos!

I agree with the others. Patience is definitely the key to acquiring one at a great price. There were times when I was desperate to cave in and just click Buy-It-Now on an LJN jumbo Voltron for $250+. However, I'm glad I waited, because I was lucky enough to get (2) jumbo figures for $100 which I'm currently working on restoring one as LJN and one as Popy. It truly is a beautiful figure. I know we had the Toynami Shogun Warriors release a few years back, plus the upcoming Jumbo Voltron due next year, but the vintage Popy Jumbo Golion mold still takes 1st place in my book in terms of aesthetics.
I also can vouch for Derik's missile clip conversion kit and Bourno's sword for LJN jumbo Voltron. Both produce high quality work.
I may be mistaken, but doesn't the Popy Jumbo Golion's face have more of a metallic blue paint, while the LJN jumbo Voltron has a flat blue paint? And I think the Popy Golion does not have the drilled holes at its heels.

I'm still really new in the JM game but my first couple buys were most definitely mad dashes to the buy-it-now line. I've decided that while Voltron is high on my list, a fixer-upper Daimos is at the very top of my list! So far I've managed to avoid the urge to splurge, hopefully in a few month's time I can save up enough to purchase both beauties! I know then I'll have more than enough to keep me busy. Between Christmas money, tax returns and patience I'm sure I can get the job done. Also I think you're right about the foot holes, they were put on the LJN version so that the motorized base could be screwed into the feet. At least I think so.

The feet: each foot is pre-drilled with a hole at the heal and a hole at the toe, for the motorized base. My Voltron didn't come with its base (it was a Used figure, as a gift from a friend). I plan to "restore" it to detail as soon as room temperature conditions cooperate, cos right now it's Winter in my region which makes it difficult to paint toy parts and such. zozo-mag

I saw somewhere somebody had turned a voltron body into a custom figure and only wanted a couple bucks for it, I was contemplating completely undoing the custom work and returning it to its former glory.

Nothing wrong with doing that. That sounds like a fun challenge: restoring it from Custom to Original. By the way, Welcome to RJ! zozo-mag

Looks like someone beat me to it! Oh well, more pop up all the time. And thanks! I've spent more time than I'd like to admit scrolling through the past pages of the board (I think last night I made it to page 27) and I'm very excited about finding this place. Nobody I know in real life understands the love for Jumbos!

Don't go too crazy paying up for one of these. They are constantly on Ebay. Not rare at all. Figure $30-60 for one in need of restoration and missing wings and $75-130 for one with wings still attached and dependong on condition. That's all i'd pay anyway. The sword is rare but Bourno can hook you up with a fantastic reproduction. If you grab one and unscrew him from that fuktarded motorized base and slap some repro stickers on him and maybe add some weights to legs you have yourself a magnificent alternative to the original Popy. Still holding out hope that someone *cough Bourno cough* can fab some repro launchers for the hands. .

I'm going to try to stay under the 100 dollar mark, I actually want a beater just to return him to his former beauty. I'm lurking eBay constantly so I'm trying to get a feel for the market currently. Between Voltron and Daimos my eBay watching is constant!

It's taboo to post links to live auctions but I will say that there's a Voltron on now that's probably up your alley. Not hard to find with usual search terms. Just a heads up

I appreciate the heads up! I've got a wedding coming up (six days, hope I'm ready!) and I've already told her if we get money, my half is gonna go straight to ebay.
