There was a thread that I saw/posted in a while back about Anime-Island but I thought I'd create a new thread dedicated to experiences dealing with this store.
I think it's pretty much a given that if you pre-order from them you'll be the last one on the block to get your item as they seem to get stuff SUPER slow but they do seem to have very good prices. I don't mind waiting so I tend to purchase pre-orders from them pretty often. In my experience their website states that they'll get a particular item approximately 1-2 months after the store in Japan get them. Even so they still seem to have trouble coming close to the projected in stock date. Typically it's another month or two past this date so you're essentially looking at 3-5 months AFTER initial release in Japan before you might get your item from them.
What's prompting this thread, however, is my recent communication with them and the response I got. In this case I pre-ordered a GX-67 Battleship Arcadia from them that at the time of pre-order the expected in stock date would be the end of October. Of course we're now in December and with no word on my order I sent an e-mail to them asking when I might expect delivery and this is the response I got:
All November and December releases are delayed due to the truckers strike. Most are about 2-3 weeks behind. Below is a copy of the email from Bandai last week about the issue. So Bandai told us mid-late December.
Please be aware that the Port of Long Beach where we import all of our items is experiencing a heavy slow down due to a labor contract negotiation that has yet to be resolved. All of our estimated arrivals in our product list are subject to change due to this slowdown. We try to factor some of the slowdown into our estimates for new items, but the length of the slowdown has been steadily increasing as contract negotiations drag on.
I wonder how far reaching this dispute is at the moment and whether, for example, if it affects products from other companies other than Bandai. Furthermore it would seem that this would be an issue for all deliveries to companies in the US expecting shipment from Bandai. Interesting nonetheless.
