Hello all! I'm still semi-new to jumbo collecting and I need some advice about the 1970's Jumbo Godzilla. I think it'd be neat to have, but I can't seem to convince myself that I really need it. It's not a robot, not brightly colored, and although it has the firing hand, doesn't seem like a cool enough gimmick.
I guess what I'm saying is what are your opinions on it, and it it worth the price for what you get?
(Also if you have it lemme see it in action!)

Well there is nothing else like it. Personally I think it evokes a pretty good idea of 1970s American toys and where they were going to go in the 80s with the heavy influences from Japan injecting into popular culture.
Make sure you get one that's not broken on the foot claws, body, or where the tail joins. Also the lever to work the tongue is fragile and usually broken off. You want an unbroken one.
A friend of mine got a great deal on a mint one, $120 boxed. But honestly you don't really need the box because you're going to display just the toy.
I think it's a good non-robot piece but you have to ask yourself if it's going to fit with what else you are interested in picking up.

I have zero interest in the box, so that's not even a real issue with it without it. It's the only thing I need to complete my Mattel jumbos, so if for no other reason I should probably get it at some point. I sort of keep an eye out on them on EBay so Its only really a matter of time before I give in! Plus it'll help me whet my hunger for rarer, more expensive jumbos!

Sam, Godzilla is really cool, and usually leads to needing Rodan to go with him. He's actually one of my favorites because he's one of the first "giants" that I remember from my childhood. So, I had to have him in my collection. Honestly, because Godzilla is still readily available, at a fairly reasonable price, I'd hold out for a Goldorak first. I think you'd be much happier and actually look forward to adding Godzilla as your final Mattel. There's still the Astro Robots ( Mattel also) but most people don't really count them because of the scarcity, and price. JMO Tom

Thanks Tom! I actually totally forgot about Goldorak! I know Bourno does the repro parts to make him look like his Popy brother, probably the best conversion kit there is. I think I'm going to do just that. Just because we never got him in America doesn't change the fact that he's a Mattel!
I've only seen two of the Astro bots for sale ever, and at insane prices to boot. Unless I win the lottery I think those guys are going to be out of the question. I appreciate the input!
