So, there's this mecha MMO I tried a while ago, called Cosmic Break: cosmicbreak.cyberstep.com/home
Notice all the breasts rubbing against the site's layout? Yeah, it wasn't always like that. The game does have plenty of Mechs to play as (they show up everywhere on the site apart from the frontpage), and it features some GREAT robot customization. Like, you can customize the mechs' TEXTURE FILES! And the gameplay isn't bad at all, it's a TPS action MMO that's mostly PvP, but features a fair amount of PvE instances as well.
Too bad it quickly turned into Pay-To-Win, with crap such as putting the mech that was meant to be the game's mascot behind a paywall (you just DON'T DO THAT!!!). It's not as bad if you're like me and enjoy PvE a bit more, but still.
So... turns out the sequel's in the works, and it's right now on Kickstarter: /
You might notice something odd from that seems to be a sequel to a mecha-themed game... particularly the lack of mecha, or at least the lack of info on them. Personally I think the project is already doomed, since at the time of this post they're 1/3 of the time in, and they're not even at 1/3 of the base goal. Take into account that the mid 10 days are the dead period of about any campaign, and... yeah, things don't look too good. Been a part of enough KS campaigns (as staff, not a mere backer) to see where this is going.
So why am I sharing this? Who knows, every lil' bit helps, and while I don't feel sorry to see the campaign fail due to serious marketing mistakes (their fault for being a bunch of idiots), at the same time the game itself looks neat, and seems to include much of what made the first game good in it's core (apart from the Paywall bullcrap), including the mecha customization (CUSTOMIZABLE TEXTURES!!!). I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for the sake of the product itself, that's all.
So, there ye go. And give a go at the first game if ye feel like it... and can get past the sea of unnecessary "moe kawaii sugoi" and frustrating pay-to-win tactics.
