Just another cool Diaclone I felt like doing a mini-review on. I never really understood how cool this guy was until I put it into perspective recently. I'd always measured him against the other Diaclone toys and, not taking into account he was the first robot in the series (discounting the Robot Base), I hadn't realized that he was designed to be something very different than the others. Perhaps you Gokin fans would see it if you had him in your hands. He's approximately 5 and 1/2 inches tall, solid die cast, has spring loaded fists and missiles... He's clearly inspired by the early 5" Chogokin robots that later became the Shogun Warriors. Specifically, his fists and missiles remind me of Mazinger Z and Poseidon. Diabattles falls short of them in the sense that he's only about 70% diecast, doesn't stand well on his own, and isn't based upon a popular television character, but he's ALSO a functional combiner; he can convert, which is something only Raideen came close to pulling off. In this sense, Diabattles is truly one of a kind. His robot mode is very cool looking too! Just as a side note, the one displayed is my King-Dam version. This was a licensed American and/or Canadian knock off. As a result, his pilot lacks some detail, being made from a third generation mold. He actually comes with three pilots, but I only have one of them.

I have a loose one and have trouble fitting the legs together with the chest. I like the figure and think it is underrated....
But how do you fit the legs in? Does it press in really really hard?

I've never had that problem with mine, Ed. Did yours come MIB? It's entirely possible you have parts from two different incarnations of the toy if they're not fitting together correctly...

These Mini-Reviews are very helpful to me! I only found Diaclones last year via mistaken crossovers with Micronauts listings on eBay . Finally, a toy line that re-sparks my imagination & captures every toy element I like (or wish I had played with, as a kid). Oh well, never too late to start playing. Thanks.

Cool Matz. You dig these Diaclones in a big way too. I'd love to see the pics anytime. I assume you're in Italy? (I'm in Canada). GiG in Italy, did a much better job of keeping the various Japanese origin toys around, and even adding to them. Great to meet you. Ward
