Thanks. I have a better idea now.
I think I might pull the trigger on it. It looks pretty amazing.

So I pulled the trigger on the GT-01 and now I'm hooked. I got the GA-01 Banpresto, the GT-00, the GT-06B and I'm on the look out for the remade GA-01 (the one that looks like GT-01).
I saw one on eBay and I suspect is the Hong Kong bootleg because the base of the ears is silver, not blue.
My question is how reliable is this single detail? The seller thinks is a 1979 because of the foot stamp but as someone mentioned they all have it.

Man, you guys really know your stuff! It's hard to believe that's there's so many differences both big and small with these guys. I've been thinking it'd be nice to get the Chogokin that started it all, but at those prices it'll be a long wait! I just got the 2002 mini gold version not realizing he'd be so small!

That's excellent. Never heard that mentioned before.
Would it be possible for you to take more pics? The ones out there are kind of blurry or too low res. yours are pretty crisp.
I'm on the hunt for some of these and it would help a lot.
Thanks, bro!

I don't see why it wouldn't be real, but maybe someone else will chime in. It looks too old to be bootleg (I looked at the actual auction). For what it is worth, the toy is complete (based on the other photos from the seller). This is also the same body style as the eternal heroes box, and this version of mazinger is my favorite. It's not a hard figure to find, so don't go crazy on it.
I feel it is nearing market price, but there's a little room left in it. I wouldn't go full market price with your bid because there are some box condition issues and yellowing on the toy and I think the current price reflects a lot about the condition. Not perfect, but still a good piece.
Now, with what I will say next, please don't think I'm reprimanding you, because I am not. Next time though, save the image and post that direct through a host like photobucket or Flickr.
We do not post links to live auctions here in case others (or in this case yourself) are bidding on something so we don't have random influence drive the price up artificially.
I know you didn't do this intentionally, but you don't want to show the world what you're going after by giving the link up. A picture with no tag is a different story.

Thanks for the response and point taken. I assure you I had no ulterior motive and I will refrain from posting links to auctions in the future.
You are right about the yellowing. I think I'd prefer to wait for a copy that's in better condition even if I have to pay more.
I just snagged one from eBay which I'm positive is the HK bootleg, perfect condition, do I don't mind waiting a bit for the right one.

Yes and it's just the links. If you save the pics and self host you should be fine in case you need to ask us a question.
Or you can always PM me or one of the vintage guys.

43,000 yen. I never would have went that high. I paid 25% of that for my eternal heroes version boxed and mint.

I know. ? and that's with all the yellowing. It made all my asking a moot point because I wouldn't have either. Also, it's even more expensive for overseas buyers since we have to pay additional fees. This one would have commanded a $40 fee.

Ginrai, can you please tell me if the Eternal Heroes says 1979 or 1986 on the foot? Thanks.

Japan 1979 on one foot and kanji characters on the other. You're lucky it was easy to get to in the display case lol.

You can clean and polish the legs if necessary. They can tarnish over time in some cases.
My eternal heroes maz needs the legs polished and a DX grendizer of mine as well. All my others are fine though.

I finally got my two GA-01s, Eternal Heroes and HK version. They're both beautiful but you can tell differences upon closer inspection: 1. Most egregious but harder to notice is the head sculpt. The geometry of the cheeks is pretty sharp on the Heroes version while pretty much gone on the HK. Other than that detail is pretty strong on HK as is the paint. 2. The waist sticker is another dead giveaway. It's been said that the HK has a foil sticker. Mine is silver but of a different kind. The Heroes version is screen printed on actual silver stock. Whereas the HK seems laser printed (not desktop laser printing but the professional decal method) on fake silver stock. Fake vs. actual silver stock...What does that even mean? It's hard to explain. The "fake" silver stock seems to use a metallic ink to simulate the silver. The "actual" silver stock has a sheen that seems to come from the actual paper. The result is the Heroes version looks sharper and the HK seems blurry, with the colors bleeding off. 3. The yellow trigger buttons on the arms. The HK's are shorter. The Heroes are longer and way smoother when pressed. 4. The legs on the HK are rougher (as has been pointed out before). The details on the ankles is sharper on the Heroes. So 3 things I didn't notice on my HK that were supposed to be signs of a knock off are: 1. The foil waist sticker, as mentioned 2. The short left leg. They're even on mine. 3. The space between the legs and the pelvis. They seem pretty identical to me. One difference which seems consistent with other specimens is the base of the ear paint. The HK is silver and the Heroes is blue. Glad you got it. Looks great and not a bad price overall. Heroes version is on the right, correct?
